Job summary

Fixed-term University Lecturer, Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law at the University of Turku invites applications for the position of fixed term University Lecturer. Employment starts on 1.12.2026 or as agreed and ends 31.8.2030.

The position of University Lecturer is teaching-oriented and includes extensive teaching responsibilities, including student guidance both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, student supervision, the planning and development of teaching, and the supervision of theses, including at the doctoral level. In undergraduate education, the University Lecturer will participate in the delivery and development of teaching in the new joint master's programme ( Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions ). In their vision paper, applicants are asked to describe the areas of private law in which they could contribute to undergraduate teaching, how they would do so, and what kind of teaching they could offer within the master's programme. In filling the position, particular attention will be paid to how the applicant’s research relates to the Faculty’s research focus areas Research at the Faculty of Law | University of Turku . Applicants are requested to explain in their application how their research and other activities are connected to the research conducted within the Faculty, its focus areas, and the themes identified in the University of Turku Strategy, particularly multidisciplinary themes, areas of strength, and emerging fields Strategy of the University of Turku

The person recruited to the position of University Lecturer is also expected to actively participate in various research funding applications, especially international research funding.

The eligibility requirements for the position of University Lecturer are set out in the Rules of Procedure of the University of Turku (Section 31) university-of-turku-rules-of-procedure.pdf . Applicants appointed to the position of University Lecturer must hold an appropriate doctoral degree and demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality, research-based teaching and supervise theses. In assessing applicants’ merits, consideration will be given to their scientific work, practical expertise in the field where relevant, teaching experience and pedagogical training, ability to produce learning materials, other teaching-related achievements, and a teaching demonstration.

The selection process will also take into account the Faculty’s teaching needs and the breadth of the applicant’s expertise in the field of private law.

In addition, the University Lecturer is expected to conduct independent scholarly research and participate in the acquisition of research funding and the implementation of research projects. The position also includes university administrative duties. Good proficiency in Finnish and English is required for the post of University Lecturer.

Salaryand trial period

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for other teaching and research personnel. The job requirement level of the position is 5 – 7. Accordingly, the position-specific salary component ranges from 3,366.36 € to 4,525.66 € per month. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance is paid.

The position has a trial period of six months.
