Financial controller MTV (Schibsted TV Media)

MTV (Schibsted TV Media) is looking for a technically strong Financial Controller who is equally comfortable discussing complex accounting matters, analyzing financial outcomes, and connecting business activities with their financial implications.

The Role

As a Financial Controller, you will be part of the Financial Controlling team and report to the Head of Financial Controlling.

We are looking for someone who combines deep accounting expertise with strong business understanding. Someone who enjoys moving seamlessly between technical accounting and tax questions, financial analysis, process and internal control discussions, and understanding how business activities translate into financial outcomes.

You are intellectually curious, analytically sharp, and comfortable operating in complex environments. You understand that financial outcomes cannot be assessed in isolation. It starts with understanding the business activities, commercial decisions, and operational realities that drive them.

This is not a role focused solely on reporting and control. Success in this role requires the ability to connect business activities, accounting, systems, tax, cash flow, and financial outcomes into one coherent picture.

You will work closely with Group Accounting, Business Controlling, and other stakeholders, acting as a key link between accounting operations and the underlying business activities.

As the finance operating model continues to evolve, this role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future Financial Controlling function. Together with colleagues across Finance, you will contribute to defining ways of working, routines, controls, governance, and interfaces that create a high-performing and insight-driven Financial Controlling organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

• Ensure integrity, accuracy, and quality of financial reporting at legal entity level
• Review and analyze financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Identify, investigate, and explain deviations, risks, and key financial drivers
• Ensure strong linkage between business developments and financial outcomes
• Support the close process through review, analysis, and challenge of reported financial information
• Take responsibility for understanding and explaining the financial performance and position of assigned legal entities

Oversight of RtR Activities

• Review and challenge outputs from the RtR function
• Assess the completeness, correctness, and reasonableness of accounting outputs, including accruals and provisions
• Focus on exceptions, anomalies, and risk areas rather than routine transaction processing
• Collaborate closely with Group Accounting to ensure alignment, transparency, and reporting quality

Accounting, Compliance & Audit

• Own and coordinate statutory reporting for assigned legal entities, ensuring compliance with local filing requirements and reporting obligations
• Support interpretation and application of local GAAP requirements where business understanding and legal entity context are required
• Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and coordinate audit activities at legal entity level
• Support interpretation and application of accounting principles in a business context
• Stay up to date on VAT and tax developments in local markets and ensure proper assessment of implications for the legal entities

Business Integration & Financial Insight

• Translate business activities into financial implications, including accounting, VAT, and tax considerations
• Provide financial insights and support to stakeholders across the organization
• Help build understanding of financial performance and underlying business drivers
• Act as a key financial counterpart, ensuring that accounting outputs, business developments, and financial performance form a coherent and accurate picture

Transformation & Process Development

• Develop and improve routines, processes, controls, and ways of working within Financial Controlling
• Contribute to defining the future role of Financial Controlling within the finance operating model
• Support implementation of new governance frameworks and control structures
• Help build a more structured, scalable, and insight-driven finance function

Profile & Experience

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, or similar
• Several years of experience in Financial Controlling, Accounting, Audit, or related finance roles
• Strong understanding of local GAAP and Finnish tax, including financial reporting requirements
• Solid experience in financial reporting, analysis, and interpretation of financial outcomes
• Ability to understand complex business situations and translate them into clear financial implications and insights
• Experience working across accounting, reporting, and business-related finance topics
• Experience working in complex, multi-entity environments is an advantage
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP is highly desirable
• Experience from media, content-driven, subscription-based, advertising-funded, or IP-based businesses is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in Finnish and English
