Job summary

The University of Helsinki invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position within THERMOTRAIT to study how butterflies respond to climate change across Europe. Based at Viikki Campus, the role combines fieldwork, museum digitisation, data standardisation and advanced modelling.

The successful candidate will work with international partners, develop R-based analyses and write an article-based PhD thesis, expected to start 11 January 2027 or as agreed.

Qualifications

• MSc or equivalent in ecology or related field
• Strong research experience or thesis work
• Interest in ecological research and independent work
• Foundation in quantitative analysis and R skills
• Excellent written and spoken English

Responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork across European sites and museum visits
• Digitise specimens and manage data collection
• Develop statistical models in R for climate-biodiversity analyses
• Collaborate with international scientists and coordinators
• Publish findings and contribute to open science
