About Easpring Finland

Easpring Finland is developing a battery materials plant in Kotka to meet the growing demand for battery materials in Europe. The plant will produce cathode active materials required for electric vehicle batteries.

We are now looking for an Environmental and Fire Safety Technician to join our HSE team.

Position Summary

As an Environmental and Fire Safety Technician, you will play a key role in managing Easpring’s environmental matters, including the implementation of the environmental monitoring plan, internal and external regulatory reporting, and fire safety systems. The role involves daily monitoring, documentation and troubleshooting of environmental and fire protection systems, as well as coordination of related service providers. Statutory inspections, specialized maintenance, system modifications and the interpretation of regulatory requirements remain the responsibility of qualified experts and HSE management. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of the HSE culture at Easpring Finland New Materials Oy. The position is ideal for a hands‑on problem solver who enjoys working with environmental tasks, technical troubleshooting and practical activities outside a traditional office environment.

Key Responsibilities

The role involves taking responsibility for the practical day-to-day management of the following areas:

• Environmental Matters and Reporting (Internal and External)
• Oversee the implementation of the environmental monitoring plan and prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports.
• Carry out environmental sampling and arrange the dispatch of samples for analysis.
• Support internal and external regulatory reporting related to environmental matters.
• Monitor the operation of the fire alarm control panel and ensure that the system remains continuously operational.
• Respond appropriately to fault, maintenance and alarm situations and take measures to prevent false alarms.
• Act as the main operator for the fire alarm system.
• Coordinate matters related to the connection to the emergency response centre, including contracts, contact persons and equipment-related matters.
• Act as the designated operator for the gas extinguishing system and ensure its continuous operational readiness and safe operation.
• Carry out the responsibilities assigned to the person designated by the property owner or holder.
• Be responsible for the daily monitoring and maintenance of the property's automatic sprinkler system.
• Ensure inspections and other activities are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation and the maintenance programme.
• Monitor the operational readiness of the system and coordinate related maintenance activities.
• Be responsible for the regular monitoring of the property's smoke extraction system.
• Supervise maintenance activities and ensure that relevant documentation is maintained.
• Be responsible for the statutory inspections, maintenance and pressure testing of the property's portable fire extinguishers in cooperation with an external service provider.
• Be responsible for the company's civil defence shelter, including its condition, equipment, availability and maintenance programme.
• Act as the designated hot work supervisor.

Requirements

• Suitable vocational or technical education and strong practical experience, preferably in Chemical, Process, Energy, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• Several years of hands‑on experience in the chemical process industry or another continuous process industry.
• Good understanding of core safety regulations, technical diagnostics and monitoring equipment, as well as practical experience in maintaining and inspecting complex protection systems.
• Practical experience in the installation, maintenance and commissioning of fire safety and environmental systems and other safety and protection systems.
• Full professional proficiency in Finnish. This technical role requires a strong understanding of Finnish environmental and local fire safety legislation, the ability to maintain detailed building maintenance documentation, familiarity with local compliance requirements, and the ability to communicate directly with building owners and emergency services. Fluent written and spoken Finnish is therefore a strict requirement for the role.
• Professional proficiency in Finnish and practical working proficiency in English.
