Finnair is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead software engineers across the Revenue & Retail domain. This is a people-leadership role that collaborates with tribe Leads, Product and Design, and Delivery Managers to drive delivery and developer experience.

You will coach teams, recruit talent, and ensure adherence to engineering standards while driving DevOps maturity and AI-assisted development in a high-traffic, consumer-facing digital platform.

Revenue and retail are at the heart of Finnair’s commercial model, and the engineering teams building these systems have a direct line to the business outcomes we care most about. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering teams across our Revenue & Retail domain, spanning the Sales & Retail and Personalisation & Data tribes. The role sits within Finnair’s Digital Engineering team and is based at Finnair HQ near Helsinki Airport. The Revenue & Retail domain builds and runs the commercial engine of Finnair’s digital experience, from flight and ancillary sales flows and personalisation services to revenue optimisation and post‑sales capabilities. Across three tribes, these systems are high‑traffic, business‑critical, and directly tied to Finnair’s commercial performance.

As Engineering Manager, you lead the software engineers across the domain’s tribes. This is primarily a people leadership role: your focus is your teams growth, wellbeing, delivery effectiveness, and developer experience. You won’t own technical architecture day to day; that sits with the tribes Lead Software Engineers. But you’ll stay close enough to the technical work to make informed decisions, support your engineers credibly, and engage meaningfully on technical direction. You’ll partner closely with the tribes Lead Software Engineers on technical direction, with Product and Design Leads on delivery priorities, and with Delivery Managers on execution. You report to the Head of Retail Engineering.

• Lead, coach, and develop software engineers across the domain: individual performance, growth plans, and wellbeing.
• Recruit and onboard engineering talent across the tribes, and build teams that are capable, motivated, and healthy.
• Ensure teams work in line with Finnair’s engineering standards and practices, partnering with Lead Software Engineers on technical direction and delivery approach.
• Keep delivery running smoothly across the domain: track health metrics, remove impediments, improve the organisational conditions that affect team effectiveness, and drive predictability.
• Drive continuous improvement within the teams: quality practices, DevOps maturity, automation, and AI‑assisted development.
• Strengthen developer experience and help teams adopt evolving tools and ways of working.
• Promote psychological safety and a high‑performing engineering culture.
• Represent your teams to stakeholders and act as the escalation point for people and delivery issues.

What success could look like

• In your first months: you know your teams well (individual strengths, development needs, and what’s getting in the way of good work) and you’ve built the key relationships across product, design, and technical leadership.
• Within the first year: the teams are well‑staffed, delivery is predictable, and your engineers have clear growth paths. Retention is strong and the domain has a healthy, high‑performing engineering culture.
• Over time: the teams are ones people want to join and stay in, technically strong, well‑led, and visibly contributing to the outcomes that matter to the business.

• Enough hands‑on engineering depth to earn your engineers’ trust: you can follow technical and architecture discussions, ask the right questions, and make informed decisions, without needing to own the design yourself.
• Experience working in agile, product‑led environments where engineers own outcomes, not just delivery.
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills: you develop people, give direct feedback, and handle conflict constructively.
• The ability to partner with technical leads and principal engineers without directly owning architecture.
• Effective communication across technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• A track record of hiring and retaining engineering talent.
• A genuine interest in how AI is changing the way engineering teams work.
• Strong written and spoken English
• a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to have

• Experience in e‑commerce, retail, or other high‑traffic, consumer‑facing products.
• Background in airline, travel, or another regulated domain.
• Experience managing teams across multiple squads or sub‑teams.
