This is a permanent position based in Vaasa, Turku or Helsinki, Finland.

If you enjoy practical site work, international teamwork, and seeing the results of your expertise in operation, this role offers an opportunity to make a direct impact.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will turn engine automation expertise into safe, reliable operation at Wärtsilä’s new-build energy sites. Your focus will be the commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of Wärtsilä engine automation systems, particularly UNIC, together with the associated engine and plant auxiliaries. Working with global project teams, subcontractors and customers, you will resolve technical issues and help deliver high-quality commissioning results.

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
  • Carrying out hands‑on commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of Wärtsilä engine automation systems (UNIC) at new‑build energy sites, with a focus on safe and reliable engine operation
  • Checking and adjusting engine and plant auxiliary systems, applying engine process knowledge to troubleshoot issues and optimising operation in collaboration with the site team
  • Documenting commissioning activities, test results, and technical findings in clear internal and customer reports in line with Wärtsilä standards
Technical skills and qualifications:
  • B.Sc. or similar in Automation Engineering or a related field
  • At least five years of relevant automation commissioning experience, with hands‑on capability in testing and troubleshooting engine automation systems
  • Strong understanding of combustion engine processes and the tuning and adjustments needed to achieve reliable engine operation
  • Proven practical expertise with engine automation systems, including commissioning, testing, and fault finding; UNIC system knowledge is seen as an advantage
  • Familiarity with Wärtsilä four‑stroke engines and how their operation is controlled through UNIC
  • Understanding of mechanical and fluid processes and their interaction with engine automation; broader knowledge of Wärtsilä engine types and auxiliary systems is an advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills
The following will enable you to succeed in this role:
  • Flexibility and resilience to work abroad for extended periods
  • A systematic, hands‑on approach to diagnosing faults and resolving engine automation and process‑related issues
  • Positive mindset, adaptability, and strong team spirit
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with confidence in collaborating effectively with subcontractors, customers, and internal stakeholders
