Job summary

SPX Aids to Navigation in Porvoo, Finland seeks an experienced Hardware Engineer to develop embedded electronics, focusing on PCB design and real hardware implementation. You’ll lead from schematics to prototypes, collaborating with firmware, software and systems engineers throughout development.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, design ownership, and ongoing evaluation of new technologies to improve existing hardware. Hybrid work is available during design, with onsite prototyping in Porvoo.

Qualifications

• Experience in electronics/hardware design, ideally within embedded systems.
• Degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong practical experience with PCB and schematic design.
• Proficient with Altium Designer; PADS experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of analogue, digital and power electronics.
• Understanding of hardware requirements through to working designs.
• Basic knowledge of RF and wireless technologies is beneficial.
• Familiarity with UART, I2C and SPI interfaces.
• Knowledge of BLE, LTE-M, NB-IoT and LoRaWAN.
• GNSS/satellite communications understanding is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded hardware with focus on PCB design.
• Create schematics, PCB layouts and manufacturing files using Altium Designer.
• Develop and test prototypes and own designs through testing.
• Research new technologies and identify improvements for designs.
• Translate requirements into hardware solutions and document specs.
• Collaborate with systems, firmware/software, test and project teams.
• Analyse existing designs for modifications and improvements.
• Ensure compliance with EMC, safety and environmental standards.
• Contribute to ongoing engineering process improvements.
