Duties

Function as a technical specialist in a lead role. Perform engineering and provide technical direction and oversight for electrical distribution planning & relay settings projects up to 34.5kV for various locations throughout the US, including analysis, calculations, research, selection, and layouts necessary to develop required design documents. Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software to perform distribution planning calculations such as short-circuit calculations, load allocation, load flows, coordination studies, and relay settings files. Confer with engineers, clients, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects; manage assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements. Perform quality verifications (QA/QC) for electrical drawings, distribution planning studies and calculations prior to issuing for construction. Provide manhour, schedule, and cost estimates for proposals. Function as the liaison with various clients and design engineers for technical support. Work closely with the design engineers, clients, and project controls to ensure that design information, distribution planning studies and necessary services are available to support the project schedule. Guide and train/mentor Electrical Engineers. Continue to learn, remain current and apply independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Oversee the collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Lead smaller production teams and serve as the responsible in charge for a project. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s). Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expand knowledge and skill set in area of discipline and other disciplines and/or functional areas. No hire/fire authority.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, plus at least 4 years of related experience. In the alternative, employer will accept Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, plus at least 5 years of related experience. Professional Engineer License required. Must have experience working on modeling electrical distribution poles; creating construction drawings on AutoCAD; and performing voltage drop and cable pulling calculations. Must have experience conducting system impact studies for interconnection of utility scale solar and battery (BESS) projects into electrical distribution circuits; developing electrical distribution system power flow models in CYME; assessing, analyzing, and proposing solutions associated with impacts of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration. Must have experience performing short circuit analysis to review electrical distribution protection schemes and proposed modification/upgrade of protection equipment including reclosers, relay settings, and DER projects. Must have experience performing short-term and long-term planning of electrical distribution circuits. Must have experience sizing fuse and transformers based on demand. Must have experience with the following software: Computer Aided Drafting Software (AutoCAD and Microstation), CYME, CYMTCC and ASPEN Oneliner. Must have experience with relay settings software including SEL AcSELerator Quickset, ESET III, and IPcom S-7679. Requires travel up to 10%. Position is 100% remote. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
