Job description
Doctoral Researcher (Cellular and Molecular Biology)

Tampere University is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We are building a new model for higher education and research in F...

Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

The project investigates how evolutionary divergence between two closely related hare species (Lepus timidus and Lepus europaeus) leads to differences in cell cycle dynamics and regulation at both physiological and molecular levels. The work integrates core molecular and cell biology methods with advanced live-cell confocal imaging, single-cell ATAC-seq, and nascent RNA transcriptomics. Research is carried out in Tampere under the daily supervision of a postdoctoral researcher, in close collaboration with the Joensuu team.

The project aims to uncover mechanisms linking life history strategies to cell cycle regulation. In addition to its relevance for species conservation, the project is expected to provide insights relevant to cancer biology and cellular senescence.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A completed Master’s degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field by the time of application
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and cell culture
  • Familiarity with single-cell approaches is an asset but not required
  • Excellent written and spoken English, motivation for doctoral studies, and good interpersonal skills

The positions also require:
