Job summary

Academic Work Finland Oy is seeking an automation software engineer to drive the full lifecycle of automation projects, from design to on-site commissioning. The role combines office design work with hands-on testing at international customer sites.

You will design automation software in Siemens TIA Portal, commission S7-1500 safety PLCs and HMI/SCADA systems, and troubleshoot across networks while documenting all changes and progress. Willingness to travel internationally (20-80%) is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Siemens F-PLC S7-1500 and TIA Portal.
• Experience with WinCC or Siemens HMI/SCADA (AVEVA) systems.
• Understanding of industrial networks including PROFINET, PROFIBUS, and OPC UA.
• Experience with SINAMICS drives and industrial field devices.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, I/O lists, and P&IDs.
• Good English communication and customer-service skills. Fluency in Finnish is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automation software solutions using Siemens TIA Portal.
• Execute international customer commissioning and after-sales service work.
• Commission Siemens F-PLC (S7-1500 safety) and HMI/SCADA systems.
• Perform I/O checks and field-device testing during system startup.
• Validate safety functions, control sequences, interlocks, and alarms.
• Troubleshoot PLC/HMI software, electrical signals, and communication networks.
• Document software changes, backups, test results, and commissioning progress.
