Job description
Overview

Volare (www.volare.fi) is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join our growing team and take part in the development of our first full-scale commercial site in Pori. This is a key role in an exciting phase of our journey—upgrading an existing facility to a modern, sustainable production hub. The position is full-time and permanent, and you can begin immediately or depending on your availability.

About Volare

Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from VTT, Volare is turning the food system circular. We upcycle plant-based side streams into high-quality protein, oil, and fertilizer using the black soldier fly. Since launching our demonstration facility near Hyvinkää in 2021, we’ve proven that insect-based upcycling is not only scalable and efficient—it can replace unsustainable raw materials in feed, pet foods, and agriculture.

Our customers include global leaders, and we’re now building our first industrial-scale operation. Our commitment is to transform waste into value—sustainably, profitably, and at scale.

Your Role

As an Automation Engineer, you will take ownership of automation development and implementation throughout the plant expansion. Working closely with other engineers, suppliers, and contractors, your work will be critical in ensuring the seamless integration of production technologies.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Designing and specifying automation systems with a focus on Siemens technology.
  • Overseeing programming and testing of equipment.
  • Participating in equipment selection, procurement, and installation.
  • Leading or supporting commissioning of automation systems.
  • Supporting system integration with environmental controls such as temperature, air flow and humidity.
  • Collaborating with cloud and data teams to enable future connectivity and remote monitoring.
Qualifications
  • A strong background in automation engineering, ideally with experience from process or industrial environments.
  • Solid expertise in Siemens automation platforms (e.g. TIA Portal, S7, WinCC, Kepware, Tulip).
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects forward in a fast-paced setting.
  • Hands-on mindset and willingness to work on-site in Pori during installation and commissioning.
  • Good communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in commissioning, programming, and integrating automation systems is highly valued. Familiarity with cloud-based data systems or industrial IoT is a plus.
Benefits
  • Benefits include Epassi and flex-hours
  • Individual onboarding plan
  • Career growth aligned with company growth projections
  • Culture based on learning, caring, and purpose
  • A chance to work on a pioneering sustainable technology.
  • A supportive team and a collaborative environment.
  • The opportunity to shape a large-scale facility from the ground up.
