Job description
Overview

The Audio Patent Engineer will build and maintain their patent portfolio working closely with R&D and the Multimedia Patenting team. They should be able to utilise their technical skills to support other Patenting teams involved in licensing and/or litigation projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of audio codecs (e.g. EVS, AMR, AAC, MPEG-H, MPEG-I, IVAS) and preferably some knowledge of Patenting. You will be working in a team with patent professionals located globally.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluating ideas, reviewing invention disclosures, and collaborating with inventors.
  • Filing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Securing granted patent applications with claims aligned with the relevant audio coding specifications.
  • Overseeing and managing a personal patent portfolio.
  • Performing prior-art search and validity analysis on patents in speech/audio coding technology areas.
  • Collaborating with other Nokia Technology teams involved in licensing and litigation.
Key Skills and Experience
  • You should have:
  • Expertise in audio codecs (e.g. EVS, AMR, AAC, MPEG-H, MPEG-I, IVAS).
  • Experience in cellular communications and 3GPP standard.
  • Broad knowledge of audio research and audio technology applications in virtual reality, augmented reality, immersive audio.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Nice to Have
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar area.
  • Patenting experience, e.g. claim charting.
  • Attendance and contribution to MPEG and/or 3GPP standardization meetings.
