Job summary

United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU‑WIDER) seeks an Associate Communications Officer with a strong interest in global development. The role focuses on communicating research results and managing a Communications and Events Team.

Starting date is as soon as possible. Under the Deputy Director‑Chief Economist, you will lead communications strategy, liaise with researchers and policymakers, and ensure UNU‑WIDER’s brand reflects UN values and

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in economics, communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related field.
• A minimum of two years of progressively relevant professional work experience, including management of communications, research or training programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to carry out and communicate development research activities in an international environment.
• A proven track record of academic and policy communications.
• Good knowledge of the international research and policy agenda in areas related to UNU‑WIDER’s research programme.
• Excellent communications and drafting skills, with fluency in both oral and written English.

Responsibilities

• Develop and build UNU‑WIDER’s capacity for policy and research impact with development actors and researchers.
• Coordinate, oversee, and produce communications products for target audiences.
• Innovate to deliver timely research communication via website, social media, and other products.
• Act as focal point for all public relations matters for UNU‑WIDER.
• Collaborate in planning events and produce communications components.
• Serve as focal point in facilitating day‑to‑day operations of the Communications and Events Team.
• Provide guidance to and supervise other personnel in the Communications and Events Team.
• Manage the team’s work and budget plans with a view to impact and cost‑effectiveness.
