Job summary

Vèringer Engineering is seeking a Technical Safety Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team on major Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and Power Plant projects. The role focuses on process safety, risk assessment, and safety deliverables across the project lifecycle.

The position involves preparing safety studies, participating in HAZOP/HAZID workshops, and ensuring compliance with NFPA and ISO standards. Hybrid work with two remote days per week is offered in Madrid or Bilbao, Spain.

Qualifications

• Experience in Technical Safety, Process Safety, Fire Safety Engineering, or Loss Prevention on industrial projects.
• Knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification, SCE/PS, EERA, FERA, QRA, ALARP, and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with HAZOP/HAZID/SIL/QRA/COMAH/Fire & Gas/Technical Safety studies.
• Familiarity with NFPA, API, ISO, EPA, NIOSH, ASME, and IP guidelines.
• Proficiency with PHAST, FLARESIM, ALOHA, EFFECTS, EXsilentia or similar tools.
• High level of English.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Technical Safety deliverables including HSE Plans, Safety Studies, HAZOP/HAZID, SIL, and QRA.
• Participate in multidisciplinary workshops (HAZOP/HAZID/3D Model Reviews/HFE).
• Ensure compliance with international standards and local regulations.
• Lead risk assessment workshops (ERP, ALARP) and safety analyses.
• Perform radiation and dispersion modelling using FLARESIM or similar software.
• Review engineering deliverables for Technical Safety compliance.
• Monitor project schedules and budgets for safety activities.
• Prepare technical specifications, RFIs, RFPs, TBEs for safety equipment and systems.
• Ensure timely and high-quality safety deliverables.

We are currently looking for a Technical Safety Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team involved in major industrial, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and Power Plant projects.

The position is aimed at professionals with experience in Process Safety, Technical Safety, Risk Assessment, Fire Safety Engineering, and Loss Prevention, supporting the development of engineering studies and safety deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Technical Safety and Environmental deliverables, including HSE Management Plans, HSE Philosophies, Safety Studies, HAZOP Management, SIL Determination, Hazardous Area Classification, QRA, ALARP Studies, FESA, COMAH, Noise Studies, Emission Modelling Reports, and Flare Assessments.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, 3D Model Reviews, HFE Reviews, Construction HAZIDs, and other multidisciplinary workshops.
• Ensure compliance with international standards and local regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate risk assessment workshops including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL Determination, ALARP, and Emergency Response Planning (ERP).
• Perform and review radiation and dispersion modelling studies using FLARESIM or similar software.
• Review engineering documentation from other disciplines to ensure Technical Safety compliance.
• Monitor project schedules, man-hour budgets, and progress of assigned activities.
• Prepare technical specifications, RFIs, RFPs, and TBEs for Technical Safety equipment and systems.
• Ensure technical quality and timely delivery of project deliverables.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in Technical Safety, Process Safety, Fire Safety Engineering, or Loss Prevention within industrial projects.
• Knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification, SCE/PS, EERA, FERA, QRA, ALARP, and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience preparing and reviewing HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, QRA, COMAH, Fire & Gas, and Technical Safety studies.
• Knowledge of international standards such as NFPA, API, ISO, EPA, NIOSH, ASME, and IP guidelines.
• Experience with software tools such as PHAST, FLARESIM, ALOHA, EFFECTS, EXsilentia, or similar.
• High level of English.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power Plant, or Energy projects.
• Experience in onshore, offshore, and brownfield facilities.
• Previous experience facilitating workshops such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL Determination, and ALARP.
• Experience in fire protection and fire safety design.
