Job summary

act digital is seeking an experienced Storage and Backup Engineer to join our team in Valencia. You will design, implement and manage enterprise storage and backup architectures, including SAN fabrics, backups, and DR testing, while ensuring security and availability.

You will perform day-to-day admin, health checks, provisioning, and incident response, collaborating with vendors and internal teams. The role emphasizes automation with Python/PowerShell, Ansible, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Must have 8+ years of experience managing and configuring enterprise storage and backup environments.
• Strong hands-on administration of block and file storage across multiple vendors.
• Experience with backup platforms and recovery testing.
• Comfort with security hardening and change management processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise storage and backup architectures aligned with availability, capacity and security requirements.

• Plan installations, upgrades, migrations, and capacity expansions; test, validate, and rollback when needed.

You will join our team of experts in storage and backup.

Your responsibilities will include:

Provide engineering expertise and day-to-day administration of the organization's storage and backup infrastructure, including the following duties:

• Design and implement enterprise storage and backup architectures aligned with business, availability, recovery, capacity, and security requirements.
• Administer and maintain storage arrays, SAN fabrics, and backup platforms, including daily health checks, storage provisioning, host integration, backup client configuration, schedules, retention policies, and replication.
• Plan and execute installations, upgrades, migrations, capacity expansions, and proof-ofconcept deployments, including testing, validation, and rollback procedures.
• Monitor and analyze system health, performance, capacity, and backup success; resolve bottlenecks and implement improvements.
• Resolve incidents, problems, and service requests; provide Tier 3 support, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Perform restores and recovery tests, and support disaster-recovery exercises to validate data protection and recovery capabilities.
• Apply security controls, hardening standards, and approved configuration changes in accordance with established policies and change-management procedures.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on maintenance, upgrades, interoperability, and complex issue resolution.
• Develop and maintain tools and scripts to automate storage and backup provisioning, monitoring, reporting, and routine operations.
• Deliver storage and backup projects for the organization and its partner entities, including technical assessments, business cases, project proposals, and operational handover.
• Maintain technical designs, configuration records, runbooks, and recovery procedures; share knowledge and promote best practices within the team.
• Participate in standby/on-call duties, planned maintenance, and other service-coverage arrangements when required.

What profile are we looking for this position:

Must-have skills :

• IT diploma
• Industry-recognized certifications in Storage, Backup, or Cloud Technologies.
• Certifications in any programming language or scripting framework (e.g., Python, Ansible, PowerShell).
• ITIL, ISO20000, PRINCE2 certifications
• Minimum 8+ years of relevant IT work experience in managing and configuring enterprise Storage and Backup environments and related services in a complex heterogenous environment
• Extensive hands-on experience in the administration and troubleshooting of block and file storage systems across multiple vendor platforms (e.g., NetApp, Dell PowerStore, Dell ECS systems)
• Excellent knowledge in the installation and administration of Enterprise Backup systems (e.g., DELL Avamar, PPDM, Data Domain, Veeam B&R and other market leaders in backup solutions)
• Expert-level troubleshooting and problem resolution for storage and backup infrastructures.
• Solid understanding and knowledge of storage technologies (Cisco/Brocade Fabric switches, VSANs, WWPNs, NPIV, multipathing, Fibre channel, iSCSI)
• Strong understanding of data protection, disaster recovery, and best practices in backup and storage management.
• Good understanding and knowledge of networking technologies
• Working Experience in shell scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform)
• Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
• Customer-centric approach to delivery and problem solving
• Good knowledge of ITIL service management methodology

Nice to have :

• Experience with Hyper Converged Infrastructure or Software Defined Storage solutions is an advantage
• Good presentation skills and ability to convey complex technical information to nontechnical audience
• Experience with service reporting and business analytics
• Experience with cloud storage solutions (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage)
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
