Job summary

Oliver Bernard is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and ship end-to-end backend systems and APIs for a rapid-scaling fintech startup. You will own architecture, CI/CD, testing and monitoring across real-time accounting logic, with daily deployments and high autonomy.

Candidates should have 5+ years in backend roles, deep knowledge of complex business logic, and strong database skills (PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs). Python with FastAPI/Flask/Django is a plus; remote EU-friendly.

I'm working with a VC-backed, rapidly scaling AI-native fintech start-up that is rebuilding the financial system of record for modern businesses. Backed by top-tier US investors, they've grown quickly in a short space of time, serving customers from high-growth companies through to publicly traded enterprises.

You'll be building and shipping end to end: designing backend systems and APIs that run real-time, business-critical accounting logic, owning everything from architecture and CI/CD through to testing and monitoring. The team deploys daily, moves fast and never waits for permission.

We're Looking For

• 5+ years' backend engineering experience (language agnostic)
• Deep experience with complex business logic products
• Strong database skills: PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs, migrations and schema design
• Experience deploying on AWS (or similar), with solid CI/CD and production-readiness fundamentals
• Hardcore work ethic and high agency
• Pragmatic, fast-moving and curious, someone who makes decisions based in reality, not theory
• Python and a modern web framework (FastAPI, Flask or Django) is a bonus
