Job description

About the School - The British School of Barcelona (City):

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels, BTEC and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB), all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Approximately 2,350 students from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 375 staff work at BSB. We are based in several locations across the Barcelona area, including Castelldefels and Sitges, as well as our campuses in the heart of Barcelona: BSB Esperança, offering Early Years and Year 1, and BSB City (Luca), offering Primary, Secondary and Pre-University education.

In September 2026, we opened a new campus north of Barcelona, in the Maresme area, initially welcoming EYFS and Primary-aged students.

The growth of the school has been accompanied by significant investment over recent years, including the building of a state-of-the-art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a full-sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEAM facilities and the new BSB City and Maresme campuses.

Barcelona is a wonderful place to live, combining an amazing city with beaches and mountains nearby. The quality of life is excellent with a mild climate and year-round sunshine.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Spanish and Catalan Secondary Teacher to join our fantastic team at BSB City Campus.

About the Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Spanish and Catalan Secondary Teacher to join our BSB City Campus team on a part-time, temporary basis to cover a period of staff absence.

The successful candidate will primarily teach Catalan A across ESO and Batxillerat, alongside Spanish A at ESO level. The timetable also includes a small allocation of Catalan B teaching.

We are looking for a teacher with strong subject knowledge who can deliver engaging and challenging lessons, develop students' linguistic and literary understanding, and prepare students effectively for external examinations. The ability to work confidently with native or highly proficient speakers of both Catalan and Spanish is essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in the Languages Department to ensure continuity of learning, maintain high academic expectations and support students in achieving their potential.

At BSB, we value collaboration, initiative and continuous professional development. We offer a supportive and inclusive working environment where you can develop your skills, work collaboratively with colleagues and make a meaningful contribution to the learning and wellbeing of our pupils and the wider school community.

Who We Are Looking For:
  • An enthusiastic and dedicated educator with a Bachelor’s degree in Philology (Filología).
  • Strong subject knowledge in Catalan language and literature, including the ESO and Batxillerat curricula, and experience teaching Spanish language and literature at ESO level.
  • Excellent command of both Catalan and Spanish, with the ability to teach both languages to native or highly proficient speakers.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, appropriately challenging lessons that develop students’ analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience preparing students for external examinations and a sound understanding of relevant assessment requirements.
  • Strong classroom management, organisational and communication skills.
  • A collaborative and flexible approach, with a commitment to maintaining continuity of learning during a period of staff absence.
  • At least two years of relevant teaching experience is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international or British school environment would be an advantage.
Benefits at Cognita:
