BSB Castelldefels Campus, part of Cognita, is seeking an experienced Primary Language Teacher for Spanish and Catalan starting September 2026. The role requires delivering engaging language lessons and supporting learners across the primary phase within an international setting.

The successful candidate will use formative assessment to monitor progress, deliver a progressive language curriculum, and collaborate with colleagues to embed language learning school-wide.

Formación

• Qualified Primary Education teacher with experience in language teaching.
• Catalan Level C certificate required.
• Experience in international or bilingual settings is desirable.

About the School-The British School of Barcelona (Castelldefels):

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 325 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre-University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of Barcelona City itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand-new main campus which opened in September 2023.

In September 2026, we will open our new Maresme campus, located north of Barcelona, initially welcoming EYFS and Primary students. This expansion reflects the school's continued growth, which has been supported by significant investment in recent years, including the development of a state-of-the-art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a full-sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEAM facilities, and the opening of both the BSB City and Maresme campuses.

About the Role:

Beginning September 2026, we are seeking to recruit an outstanding Primary Language Teacher (Spanish and Catalan) to join our team at the BSB Castelldefels Campus. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic practitioner who will work collaboratively across the Primary phase and demonstrate a strong understanding of effective language acquisition in both Spanish and Catalan and can deliver the LOMLOE curriculum.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging, structured, and progressive language lessons that promote confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They will use assessment effectively to support language development and ensure that all pupils make strong and sustained progress.

Please note: Relevant qualifications and appropriate experience are essential for this post. Candidates must hold a Primary Education teaching qualification and possess a Catalan Language Certificate at Level C.

The Role

• Have high expectations of all pupils and track progress using formative assessment strategies, informed by relevant data and observations across a range of speaking, listening, reading and writing opportunities.


• Demonstrate a strong understanding of effective language acquisition pedagogy, including phonics, pronunciation, vocabulary development, and oracy.


• Contribute to the development and delivery of a coherent, progressive and engaging Spanish and Catalan curriculum across the primary years.


• Provide clear feedback and communicate effectively with parents, ensuring that both pupils and families are aware of strengths, progress and next steps in language learning.


• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure language learning is embedded where appropriate across the wider curriculum and to support cover capacity across the school when required.


• Actively engage with the school’s performance management programme.


• Work with colleagues and members of the SLT to ensure that school improvement priorities are effectively implemented within the language provision.
