Job summary

Nexthink, a leader in digital employee experience management, invites you to join its Madrid engineering team for a six-month internship blending software development with AI. You’ll work on Java-based solutions, apply AI concepts, and learn from experienced engineers through agile practices and code reviews.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across development, testing, documentation, and software maintenance while building a strong foundation in modern microservices and distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or related field, with a master's in AI or related area in progress or recently completed.
• Academic or personal projects involving retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), search optimization, or databases supporting AI applications.
• Theoretical understanding of microservices is nice to have.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and distributed systems; Kafka is a plus.
• Foundation in software engineering and programming; understanding of how software is built.
• Knowledge and practice of SOLID principles.
• Collaborative teamwork and strong problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail, time management and organizational skills.
• Clear communication skills in English.
• Interest in developing both software engineering and AI skills.
• Ability to learn new technologies independently.

Job Description

Join Nexthink's engineering teams in Madrid for a six-month internship combining software development with AI. You'll build on your engineering foundations, apply what you've learned about AI, and develop your skills through hands-on work.

At Nexthink, we support future professionals as they develop their careers through a collaborative environment of continuous learning. You'll work closely with engineers responsible for one of the domains in our system, learning from the team while contributing to its work.

The roadmap includes new development and technical optimizations, giving you opportunities to learn while contributing to our product.

What you'll do

• Assist in developing and testing Java-based software solutions.
• Apply your programming skills and AI knowledge to the team's work.
• Learn how the team builds software and approach technical improvements alongside its engineers. Collaborate with senior engineers throughout the development process, including agile team meetings, code reviews and software maintenance.
• Learn and apply software development best practices and coding standards.
• Contribute to documentation for the features you help develop.
• Build the engineering skills needed to take on more responsibility over the course of your internship.

Qualifications

• Working towards a master's degree in AI or a related field after completing your undergraduate degree. A bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related field, with a master's degree in AI or a closely related area in progress or recently completed. Other educational paths will also be considered if you have the relevant engineering and AI foundations.
• Academic or personal projects involving retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), search optimization, or the databases supporting AI applications.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and distributed systems; Kafka is a plus.
• A foundation in software engineering, including programming knowledge and an understanding of how software is built.
