Responsibilities

The Government Relations and Public Policy team covers a wide range of responsibilities: government affairs and government relations; policy and issue area expertise; risk and crisis management and mitigation; outreach, coalitions, and partnerships. The mission of the team is to earn trust and prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok.

We are seeking a professional of Government Relations and Public Policy to lead our strategic engagement with government entities, regulators, and policymakers in Spain and Portugal. Based in Madrid, this role involves developing and executing public policy strategies that align with our business objectives, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and navigating the political and regulatory landscapes of both countries. The position requires expertise in relevant policy/legislative areas and public affairs experience across the two countries.

The ideal candidate should be a highly flexible problem-solver with strong communication skills and will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating sound judgment and a proactive approach to managing risks and unlocking opportunities, helping contribute to the success of the company.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive government relations and public policy strategies for Switzerland and Austria, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with government officials, regulators, industry associations, and other key stakeholders to advocate for the company’s interests and influence policy outcomes.
• Policy Analysis: Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments in both countries, assessing their impact on the company’s operations and providing strategic recommendations.
• Advocacy and Representation: Represent the company at governmental meetings, public hearings, industry conferences, and other relevant events, articulating the company’s positions on various policy issues.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including Legal, Communications, and Product, to ensure that public policy initiatives are integrated with business strategies and that product developments comply with regulatory requirements.
• Consultancy and Trade Associations Oversight: Guide and manage external government relations and public policy consultancies as well as trade associations, ensuring alignment with internal objectives and optimal performance.
• Reporting and Compliance: Provide regular reports on policy developments, advocacy efforts, and potential risks, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Significant relevant experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field, with a strong understanding of the political and regulatory environments in Spain and Portugal and of what makes effective government relations and public policy strategies successful.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assess complex policy issues and their implications for the business.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
• Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, and community representatives.
• Travel: Willingness to travel within Southern Europe and occasionally to other European locations as required.
