Job summary

Holtec International in Madrid, Spain, is seeking a Senior Pipe Stress Engineer to lead analysis, design, and structural integrity assessments for nuclear piping systems and reactor components, including SMRs. The role requires deep expertise in piping stress, fracture mechanics, and regulatory compliance, with strong leadership in multidisciplinary project execution.

The position is on-site in Madrid with eligibility considerations for U.S. DOE regulations under 10 CFR Part 810.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Nuclear Engineering; MSE/PhD strongly preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in nuclear piping analysis and component integrity.
• Extensive ASME Section III piping analysis experience.
• Expertise in fracture mechanics and structural integrity assessment.
• Experience with AutoPIPE and Smart3D environments.
• Knowledge of nuclear regulatory requirements (US NRC, CSA, REGDOC).
• Leadership and collaboration skills; eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.

Responsibilities

• Lead nuclear piping design and stress analysis for ASME Section III systems.
• Perform advanced fracture mechanics, fatigue, SCC crack growth, and fitness-for-service evaluations.
• Develop and implement LBB and HELB methodologies.
• Conduct piping stress analysis using industry tools.
• Analyze pipe supports per ASME NF and coordinate with designers.
• Develop and review stress reports, calculations, and line lists.
• Interface with Smart3D/SmartPlant models for layout/flexibility.
• Ensure compliance with nuclear codes and standards.
• Provide leadership in probabilistic fracture mechanics.
• Support fabrication, construction, and field issue resolution.
• Review vendor documentation for compliance.
• Lead R&D programs and regulatory benchmarking.
• Develop proposals, schedules, and budgets.
• Mentor engineers and lead teams.
