Fundamental, an AI company, is seeking its first software engineer for the Research team to own the core codebase behind model development. The role focuses on fast iteration, robustness for large training runs, and production readiness.

You will work with researchers to remove bottlenecks, build dependable infrastructure, and set code quality standards through reviews and testing. This position requires leadership in taking research code toward scalable, maintainable engineering.

Formación

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with ML or data-intensive backends experience.
• Strong software architecture skills including modular design and clean interfaces.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and deep familiarity with PyTorch.
• Hands-on experience with ML research tech stack and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP).
• Demonstrated track record of robustness and QA in software/ML systems.
• Mission-driven mindset focused on excellence in software development.

Responsabilidades

• Amplify and accelerate researchers' efficiency with robust tooling and workflows.
• Steward the long-term development and maintenance of our codebase, production-ready with flexible research needs.
• Champion software engineering best practices in ML, mentoring researchers on code quality and design.
• Elevate code maturity, manage technical debt, ensure reproducibility of experiments and interfaces.
• Maintain clear documentation for research infrastructure and systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to translate research breakthroughs into real-world impact.
• Guard the research–engineering contract with CI, contract tests and early bug detection.
