Black & Veatch in Madrid is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design the essential plant systems for nuclear facilities. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on new-build and upgrade projects, focusing on practical engineering infrastructure and safety-compliant systems.

Based in Spain, you will mostly perform office-based engineering with some travel to sites, and you must have the right to work in Spain and fluency in Spanish and English.

Formación

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Typically 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal).
• Legal right to work in Spain.
• Knowledge of European nuclear engineering standards and regulations.

Responsabilidades

The Opportunity

Help design the infrastructure that supports the future of nuclear energy!

Nuclear power facilities depend on far more than reactor technology. They require complex, resilient and carefully integrated infrastructure to operate safely and effectively.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and engineering of the essential plant systems that sit around and support nuclear power generation.

This is not a nuclear science, reactor physics or nuclear technology development role. Your focus will be on the practical engineering infrastructure of a nuclear facility, including mechanical systems, equipment, piping, utilities, cooling, water, steam and supporting plant services.

Based in Madrid, you will work as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering solutions for nuclear new-build, plant improvement and infrastructure modification projects.

The position will primarily involve office-based engineering work, with occasional travel to project, client or plant locations.

You must have the legal right to work within the country that you are applying for (Spain).

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems and associated infrastructure for new and existing nuclear power facilities.
• Develop engineering solutions for modifications, upgrades and plant improvement projects.
• Produce calculations, specifications, technical reports, equipment schedules and design documentation.
• Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering disciplines.
• Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, designers, suppliers and engineering teams.
• Ensure that designs meet applicable technical, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Manage assigned engineering activities in accordance with project budgets, schedules and quality expectations.Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
• Contribute to design reviews, technical assurance activities and continuous improvement.
• Support site surveys, plant assessments and client meetings where required.

Preferred Qualifications

You do not need to be a nuclear scientist. You need to be an accomplished Mechanical Engineer who understands how complex facilities are designed, integrated and delivered.

Relevant experience may include the design or engineering of:

• Experience designing mechanical systems for nuclear power
• Nuclear Power Plant System Cooling water and closed-cycle cooling systems.
• Condensate and feedwater systems.
• High-pressure, intermediate-pressure, low-pressure or auxiliary steam systems.
• Instrument air and service air systems.
• Demineralised water, make-up water and water treatment systems.
• Service water and potable water systems.
• Pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, valves and mechanical plant equipment.
• Process and utility piping systems.
• Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for complex or controlled environments.
• Mechanical equipment layouts and plant integration.
• Piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Technical specifications and equipment procurement packages.
• Modifications to operational power generation or industrial facilities.

Desirable Experience

• Relevant mechanical design or engineering experience (typically 5 years +).
• Knowledge of Spanish (or European) nuclear engineering expectations, standards or regulatory environments.
• Experience working under a nuclear or safety-critical quality assurance programme.
• Experience acting as a responsible engineer, lead engineer or technical authority.
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical engineering deliverables.
• The ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
• The ability to manage engineering priorities while working to project schedules and quality requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• AIPE or AQPE or working towards qualification through a recognised professional institution. (Preferred but not essential).
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
• Typically 5+ years of relevant Mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of Spanish engineering standards, regulations and industry best practices.
• Must have the legal right to work within the country that you are applying for (Spain)
• Must be fluent in Spanish and English languages (Written and verbal)
