Job summary

Mercanis is building an AI-powered procurement platform and seeks a Senior DevOps Engineer to own the AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and observability. You will work across services to secure, scale, and improve developer experience in a remote-first team.

You will design cloud-native solutions, implement IaC, and drive incident response while collaborating with product engineering to deliver reliable, secure systems. Flexible remote setup within Spain with Berlin collaboration option.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or similar role.
• Strong AWS production experience and cloud mindset.
• Terraform, GitLab CI, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Scripting in Python or Bash and automation focus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and AWS CDK.
• Improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines across services and environments.
• Support serverless and cloud-native workloads (Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, EventBridge).
• Improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and tracing with CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry.
• Strengthen infrastructure security (IAM, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, production access).
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve deployment workflows and developer experience.
• Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.

At Mercanis, we are building the Agentic AI Procurement Suite that powers the procurement of tomorrow, digital, transparent, and intelligent.

We are a small, collaborative engineering organization where Platform & Infrastructure plays a key role in keeping our systems reliable, secure, scalable, and ready for AI-driven product capabilities. We also encourage the pragmatic use of AI tools in daily engineering work.

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help evolve the infrastructure behind our SaaS and agentic platform.

You will work on AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security, and developer experience across multiple services and environments. This is a hands-on role with strong ownership, close collaboration with product engineering teams, and direct impact on how we scale our platform.

Your Responsibilities on this role

• Design, build, and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform and AWS CDK.
• Improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines across services and environments.
• Support serverless and cloud-native workloads, including Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, and EventBridge.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and distributed tracing with CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry.
• Strengthen infrastructure security, including IAM, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and production access.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve deployment workflows and developer experience.
• Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.

Role requirements

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or a similar role.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience in production environments.
• Solid experience with Terraform, GitLab CI, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Good scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar.
• Experience operating production systems and troubleshooting complex issues.
• Security-minded approach to cloud infrastructure and access management.
• Strong communication skills in a remote-first, async environment.
• Proactive use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity, automation, documentation, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
• Experience working in multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments is a plus, especially with GCP, Alibaba Cloud, or STACKIT.
