Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking a Data Engineer III in Madrid to design and optimize batch and real-time data pipelines, build scalable distributed systems, and mentor junior engineers. You will work with Java, Python, Scala, and Spark while applying data modeling and testing practices across large data sets.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable data delivery, monitor performance, and drive improvements in policies and operational practices.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor`s degree, 3+ years with a master`s degree, or equivalent.
• Experience in at least three programming languages.
• Experience building and maintaining more than one production data pipeline or data product.
• Proficiency in at least 3 data-relevant languages (e.g., Java, Python, Scala, Spark).
• Hands-on experience with large volumes of data (ingestion, batch and real-time).
• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud technology.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Build and operate highly available distributed data systems.
• Apply software design principles and data modeling concepts.
• Develop software using Java, Python, Scala, and Spark.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues within SLAs.
• Lead code reviews and guide evolution of technical solutions.
• Coordinate stakeholders and collaborate across the organization.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in communities of practice.
• Identify opportunities to improve policies, processes, and efficiency.
