Veolia is seeking a Senior Consultant to join the Power Grid & BESS / Energy Systems team in Madrid. You will lead techno-economic analyses, support BESS deployment, and contribute to power system planning for European and international projects.

The role requires 5–10 years in energy sector consulting, MSc/MEng in a related field, and strong expertise in BESS, renewable integration, and market frameworks. Fluent in English and Spanish; occasional travel expected.

Formación

• MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering completed.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in energy sector consulting, utilities or IFIs, with Europe experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in BESS technologies, renewable integration and power system analysis.

Responsabilidades

• Conduct techno-economic analyses for BESS and renewable energy projects.
• Support BESS implementation from procurement through to commissioning and performance validation.
• Carry out power system planning, simulation and expansion studies for renewable integration.
• Prepare technical and economic content for consulting projects and proposals.
• Evaluate grid integration challenges and regulatory analysis for energy storage deployments.
• Contribute to market assessments and client engagement across European/international markets.

Job Description

MRC Consultants and Transaction Advisers, our subsidiary based in Madrid specialises in independent, high-quality advice through the full project cycle, from early feasibility to execution and post-implementation evaluation, with a focus on decarbonisation, renewable energy integration, energy storage and climate-resilient infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to join our Power Grid & BESS / Energy Systems team in Madrid.

You will help develop and deliver innovative energy projects across Europe and internationally. The focus is on battery energy storage systems (BESS), covering techno-economic analysis, power system studies and implementation support, as well as the integration of renewable energy into modern power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct techno-economic analyses for BESS and renewable energy projects, including feasibility studies and business model development.
• Support BESS implementation, from technical specification and procurement through to commissioning and performance validation.
• Carry out power system planning, simulation and expansion studies for developing-country contexts, with emphasis on renewable integration and grid stability, including experience with tools such as SDDP or similar.
• Prepare technical and economic content for consulting projects and proposals.
• Evaluate grid integration challenges and operational frameworks for BESS within project teams.
• Conduct market assessments and regulatory analysis for energy storage deployment.
• Contribute to capacity-building and training projects for clients.
• Support client engagement and project delivery across European and international markets.

Technical Skills

• MSc/MEng in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering or related fields.
• 5 to 10 years of professional experience in energy sector consulting, utilities or IFIs, with work experience within Europe
• Demonstrated expertise in BESS technologies, covering both modelling and implementation, as well as renewable energy integration and power system analysis.
• Familiarity with wholesale power markets and their operation; experience with European frameworks (ENTSO-E, market coupling, day-ahead/intraday),
• Experience with techno-economic modelling and dispatch optimisation.
• Familiarity with power system analysis tools (DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E or similar).
• Familiarity with energy dispatch tools (SDDP, Plexos or similar)
• Experience with data analysis and modelling (Python, R or equivalent).
• Desirable
  • Strong understanding of European energy markets and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in project development or transaction advisory.
  • Knowledge of grid codes and technical standards for renewable integration

Soft skills

• Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Fluency in English and Spanish; French is a plus.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, worldwide.
