Job summary

Trading 212 Ltd. is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own end-to-end backend solutions across a microservices landscape. You will design scalable services, ensure performance and data integrity, and collaborate with product and engineering to translate complex requirements into durable systems.

You will work with Java 21 (Spring), Go, and Node.js (TypeScript) in a high-velocity environment, focusing on reliable production systems and clear technical decision-making.

Qualifications

• Proven ownership of backend services built and operated within a microservices architecture.
• Strong grasp of HTTP, WebSockets, and AMQP protocols and when to use each.
• Production fluency in at least one modern backend framework.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, including indexing, transactions, isolation levels, locking, and high-performance design.
• Track record designing systems for high availability, scalability and resilience.
• Clear, structured problem-solving and ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs.
• Strong engineering fundamentals, sound judgment, and confidence learning unfamiliar technologies.

Responsibilities

• Own backend solutions end to end: understand the business problem, shape the requirements, design the solution, build it, test it, deploy it and run it in production.
• Design and evolve services for performance, scale, resilience and data integrity.
• Make clear technical decisions with a full understanding of constraints, alternatives and trade-offs.
• Keep code and systems maintainable as products and requirements evolve.
• Diagnose difficult production problems, address underlying causes and prevent recurrence.
• Work closely with product and engineering colleagues to turn complex requirements into simple, durable solutions.
• Review work critically, share knowledge and raise the engineering standard across the team.
