Proton is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and build shared libraries and internal services used across Proton products. You will own libraries end to end, define architectural boundaries, and write RFCs for the monorepo.

You will work with PHP for API work and Rust where performance and memory safety matter, collaborating with product teams and improving developer experience. Offices in Barcelona and beyond support flexible work.

Formación

• 5+ years building backend systems in production with PHP focus.
• Experience with Rust or willingness to learn quickly.
• Genuine taste in API design and library vs service decisions.
• Experience shaping architecture in large codebases and monorepos.
• Ability to evolve shared code without breaking dependents.
• Security-minded approach to abstractions and adoption.

Responsabilidades

• Design and build shared libraries, framework layers, and internal services used across Proton products.
• Turn recurring patterns into clear abstractions.
• Write documentation and examples that developers actually use.
• Improve day-to-day developer experience: build times, tests, debugging.
• Work in the open with RFCs, reviews, and cross-team collaboration.
• Help integrate libraries into applications with other developers.
