Job summary

Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial in Barcelona invites a Senior Data Scientist – Applied AI to lead ML, NLP and generative AI initiatives from exploration to production. You’ll work with Python, LLMs, embeddings, retrieval, and tools, collaborating with ML and Infrastructure engineers to ensure reliable, scalable solutions.

Based in Barcelona with a hybrid work model, you’ll engage with international teams and shape AI strategies, emphasizing responsible AI, privacy and security

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in data science, ML, AI or related field
• Advanced Python skills and production-grade coding practices
• Strong ML/data science foundations, model development and evaluation
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, NLP and generative AI
• Familiarity with prompting, embeddings, retrieval and tool usage
• Experience with SQL and large datasets
• Experience in cloud environments and modern data platforms
• Ability to ship production-grade Python services and data pipelines
• Strong communication skills and collaboration with international teams

Responsibilities

• Lead data science and applied AI work from exploration through production
• Develop and evaluate ML/NLP/GenAI solutions for real problems
• Build apps using LLMs, embeddings, retrieval and agents
• Develop production-grade Python services, APIs, data pipelines
• Design experiments and evaluation frameworks to measure quality
• Collaborate with ML and Infrastructure Engineers on deployment and monitoring
• Work with cross-functional teams to translate questions into technical solutions
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to internal standards
