Airbus Defence and Space SAU in Getafe, Spain, seeks a Thermo-Mechanical AIT Process Engineer (Manufacturing Engineer) to join Space Systems manufacturing teams. You will define manufacturing processes, BOMs, and support shop-floor execution across breadboards, qualification and flight models.

Fluency in English and Spanish, 3–5 years in AIT or space/ME manufacturing, and knowledge of ESA standards or CATIA are beneficial.

  • Knowledge of assembly, integration and test in aerospace environments.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is essential.

Job Description:

As a Thermo-Mechanical AIT ME (Manufacturing Engineer) you will be assigned to one of the Space System Business Lines (Earth Observation Science & Exploration, Telecom& Nav System, Constellation), and given assignment to specific set of projects, managed transversally by a Lead Project Manager. You will get integrated as ME active workforce inside a multi-Functional project team, where all members receive the challenge to successfully develop, industrialize, produce and deliver a finished and fully functional product to an end customer in the Space sector.

Spacecraft Production Spain comprises a set of well-established Space products in Airbus Space Systems portfolio, devoted to Earth Observation Science & Exploration (i.e Paz 2, Copernicus LSTM, Aeolus2, METOP SAS & ICI), Telecomm & Nav Systems Programs (i.e. Adler, SpainSat, Galileo) and potentially to Constellation Programs.

Purpose of Thermo-Mechanical AIT Process Engineer is to enable, for the project(s) he is assigned to the implementation of the Manufacturing System in the relevant AIT domains as follows:

  • Thermo-mechanical assembly and integration of Spacecraft (S/C) instruments and payload
  • Electrical hardware integration on instruments and payload
  • Test Set up and de-set up
  • Payload / System mechanical integration into Spacecraft
  • Satellite final integration
  • Handling, loading and shipping of payload / satellite
RESPONSIBILITIES

This translates into the following main accountabilities:

  • Concur with Engineering domains during development phase so to ensure Design solution is feasible and fits the industrial system.
  • Bringing industrial incomes and expertise to multifunctional teams assigned to projects.
  • Gain proper awareness and understanding of the whole configured set of Engineering technical information applicable for elaborating the Manufacturing Dossier in the project, so due traceability is granted (As Design-As Planned)
  • Analyzing and optimizing manufacturing technologies and capabilities available in Space Spain Plant or at extended industrial partners & suppliers.
  • Ensure the feasibility of Assembly Integration and Testing of the thermal, mechanical and electrical hardware.
  • Ensure Material & Processes Selection List and Standard Selection List in the Manufacturing Dossier all fit in the AIT execution works allocated in the project.
  • Define the Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) and make material requirements available to the Supply Chain.
  • Technically support project AIT manager & Production staff during shopfloor execution of breadboards, Qualification and Flight Models. This may include on-site assistance to customer sites or spaceports during launch campaigns or supplier facilities for environmental, RF or mechanical test campaigns.
  • Build process definition for AIT activities in the project, this includes:
    • Defining the as planned structure in concurrence with Engineering & Mechanical Design Office.
    • Characterize the AIT work sequence and key industrial parameters iaw Airbus OES guidelines (i.e process flow, process time, lead time, critical path, skills mapping, white spaces, ...)
    • Identify the need and specify requirements for industrial asset (Jigs, Tools, Tooling, Machines, ...).
    • Integrate the Quality inputs relevant to the AIT activities (Control Plan) to ensure conformity of the product
    • Consider inputs from PFMEA and Health & Safety general regulation as well as local counsel H&S advise.
    • Schedule and delivery rates constrains.
    • Resources and Means optimization.
    • Economic aspects.
  • Lead the work preparation activities in the project(s) i.e. release Systems Mechanical&Electrical Integration Procedures and incorporate them into comprehensive Work Orders, iaw the build process layout.
  • Foster regular feedback loops with the Production & Quality Team
  • Support shop floor continuous improvement by providing rational and conclusions based on work prep expertise and takeaways from lessons learned exercises, PPS, etc...
  • Provide technical advice in the budget preparation, sometimes involved in CapEx planning to support determination of cost improvement measures.
  • Developing and deploying capability in case of New Product / Process is introduced. This includes support and influence on qualification campaigns along with Material & Process and Design Dpts.
SKILLS
  • Aerospace, Telecommunications, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
  • From 3 to 5 years of experience in the AIT (Assembly integration and Test) production field, preferably in AIT Space or in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Nice to have:
    • Knowledge of ESA standards (ECSSs)
    • Knowledge of CATIA
    • Knowledge of DDMS environment (Delmia, Apriso, etc)
  • Fluent in English and Spanish language
