Fundación IIS Aragón in Spain is seeking a Researcher N3 for the Biomedical Engineering team. The role focuses on designing, optimizing and implementing tissue engineering techniques in preserved organs, including decellularization, recellularization, perfusion and biomaterial integration.

The candidate will evaluate organ and biomaterial viability, ensure quality controls and document procedures, and prepare scientific reports for ongoing projects at IIS Aragón.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering.
  • At least three months of experience in research activities or laboratory work related to biotechnology, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, or health sciences.

Responsabilidades

  • Design, optimization and implementation of tissue engineering techniques in preserved organs, including preservation, decellularization, recellularization, perfusion and conditioning protocols in ex vivo systems or bioreactors, as well as the development and integration of biomaterials, polymeric matrices and hydrogels.
  • Characterization and evaluation of organs, tissues, biomaterials and cellular components used in tissue engineering processes, through the analysis of their viability, structural integrity and functionality, using cell culture techniques, cell-material interaction, microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry and physicochemical and biological assays.
  • Standardization, analysis and documentation of tissue engineering experimental procedures and results, including application and documentation of experimental quality controls, data and image analysis, traceability and experimental registration, as well as the preparation of scientific and technical reports and documentation of the project.

Resolution of October 2, 2026, of the Aragón Health Research Institute Foundation (IIS Aragón), announcing a position of Researcher N3 [Ref. RRHH-26/043]

Required requirements:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biotechnology or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Hold a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Three months of experience in research tasks or laboratory work related to biotechnology, biomedical engineering, bioengineering or health sciences.

The main functions to be developed are:

  • Design, optimization and implementation of tissue engineering techniques in preserved organs, including preservation, decellularization, recellularization, perfusion and conditioning protocols in ex vivo systems or bioreactors, as well as the development and integration of biomaterials, polymeric matrices and hydrogels.
  • Characterization and evaluation of organs, tissues, biomaterials and cellular components used in tissue engineering processes, through the analysis of their viability, structural integrity and functionality, using cell culture techniques, cell-material interaction, microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry and physicochemical and biological assays.

a) Education and Knowledge Relevant to the Position (0-20 points)

  • Education and knowledge in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and/or regenerative medicine (0-5 points).
  • Education and knowledge in 2D and 3D cell culture, sterile culture techniques, and cell handling (0-5 points).
  • Knowledge of biological characterization of cells, tissues, and/or biomaterials using viability assays, metabolic analysis, morphological analysis, microscopy, and/or similar techniques (0-5 points).
  • Knowledge of hydrogels, biofabrication, 3D printing, and/or the fabrication of systems for biomedical applications (0-5 points).

b) Professional Experience (0-40 points)

This criterion is intended to assess the extent to which the candidate has developed, throughout their professional career, activities related to those required for the position:

  • Experimental experience in cell culture and handling of biological samples under sterile conditions (0-10 points).
  • Experience in the development, handling, and characterization of biomaterials, hydrogels, and/or systems intended for tissue engineering applications (0-10 points).
  • Experience in cell characterization and/or cell-material interaction techniques, including viability assays, metabolic analysis, morphological analysis, staining, and microscopy (0-10 points).
  • Experience in biofabrication, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, or the development of experimental 3D in vitro models (0-5 points).

c) Training and Skills for the Performance of the Position (0-25 points)

  • Proficiency in computer-based environments: Microsoft Office, research information systems, and other specialized software environments (0-15 points).

  • Hold a University Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering.
