Job summary

Hitachi Energy Ltd. in Seville, Spain, is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to develop and maintain embedded software for power converters, using C/C++, Embedded Linux, and Yocto.

You will design real-time control software, integrate bootloaders and drivers, support CI/CD, and work with cross-functional teams in an international R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Automation, Industrial Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong hands-on experience with Yocto Project and Embedded Linux maintenance, including patching, backporting, BitBake, OpenEmbedded, and BSP management.
• Solid programming skills in C/C++, with Python experience for scripting, automation, and development tools.
• Experience with microcontrollers, ARM/DSP architectures, bare-metal systems, RTOS, Linux kernel, and low-level drivers.
• Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I²C, CAN, UART, Ethernet, Modbus), Git, CI/CD, and embedded software testing.
• Understanding of power electronics and closed-loop control systems, with strong analytical skills and an advanced level of English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware and software in C/C++ for power conversion systems operating on bare-metal, RTOS, and Embedded Linux platforms.
• Maintain and optimise Yocto Project-based Linux distributions, including recipes, layers, BSPs, images, SDKs, and reproducible builds.
• Manage Linux/Yocto updates, patching, security vulnerabilities (CVEs), and software dependencies to ensure system reliability and cybersecurity.
• Integrate and maintain bootloaders, kernels, device trees, drivers, and low-level communication interfaces.
• Develop and implement real-time control algorithms for power converters, collaborating closely with control and hardware engineering teams.
• Perform debugging, automated testing, CI/CD integration, and hardware/HIL validation, ensuring software quality and performance.
