Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of. Our Process Engineer will support ongoing operations at the Porriño site, providing technical assistance related to manufacturing, utilities, and process systems. The role offers the opportunity to develop hands‑on experience in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment while working closely with experienced engineers and cross‑functional teams. The focus of the role is to develop technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes, support day‑to‑day operations, and contribute to engineering and improvement projects that help ensure safe, compliant, efficient, and reliable manufacturing.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment, utilities, and processes, with support from experienced engineers and subject matter experts.
  • Support the identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve manufacturing processes in terms of safety, quality, cost, time, and yield.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, commissioning, and qualification of engineering projects at the site.
  • Process Engineering Lead in medium complexity projects coordinating and supporting team members (Junior Process Engineer, contractors)
  • Support the installation qualification (IQ) activities for new and modified equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with other areas and departments of Porriño, including Production, MSAT, Quality, and Program Management, to help resolve quality and production issues.
  • Provide technical support for process equipment and systems and contribute to troubleshooting activities.
  • Support deviation investigations and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions where required.
  • Assist with the tech transfer of new processes into the facility.
  • Develop knowledge of cGMP and safety requirements and ensure that activities are performed in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Support the preparation and review of technical documentation related to engineering projects and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide support to manufacturing operations, including participation in an on‑call rotation as required after appropriate training.
  • Lead by example in critical tasks, anticipate risks, and reinforce safe habits; comply with rules and PPE and stop activities when risks arise.
  • Act as a role model, especially for new hires, and recognize good safety practices visibly and in a timely manner.
What we’re looking for:
  • Degree or MSc in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Some relevant experience in process engineering, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, food, or other regulated industrial sectors.
  • Previous internship or placement experience is also valued.
  • Interest in developing a career in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and process engineering.
  • Familiarity with fluid processing equipment such as pumps, valves, piping systems, tanks, and transfer systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of biopharmaceutical unit operations such as CIP/SIP, chromatography, UF/DF, bioreactors, centrifugation, HVAC, or utilities.
  • Any exposure to engineering projects, commissioning, qualification, or process improvement activities is desirable.
  • Good understanding of safety and quality principles; knowledge of cGMP is an advantage.
  • Spanish and English proficiency, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
  • Positive mindset, collaboration, customer focus, willingness to learn, problem‑solving skills, and a proactive approach.
