Job Description

The Opportunity

We are extending our Grid Solution team for the next generation of AI data centres, and we are looking for an exceptional engineer to lead it. As principal power systems architect, you will own the end-to-end electrical system design of hyperscale facilities — from the high-voltage grid connection point down through the distribution network to the rack — and you will be the technical authority that holds it all together. This is not a coordination role. You will be expected to understand the work deeply enough to challenge status quo in data center electrification architecture and take them to the next levels, make defensible design decisions under uncertainty, and earn the trust of both your expert team and the external stakeholders you interface with: utilities, interconnection authorities, EPCs, and equipment vendors.

How you will make an impact
  • Own the overall electrical architecture of large-scale AI data centre campuses and ensure design coherence across all disciplines, from HV grid connection through MV distribution to AC and DC rack power.
  • Define study scope and direct work across a structured team of specialist engineers covering five domains: steady-state network planning and power quality; dynamic studies, stability and grid code compliance; electromagnetic transient and insulation coordination; protection, RAMS and asset reliability; and MV/LV system design and P&C.
  • Ensure scoping and output across these groups are mutually consistent and sequenced correctly.
  • Lead grid connection strategy — TSO engagement, connection application technical content, grid code compliance positioning under the applicable national grid code and EU network codes, and ancillary service obligations — with particular focus on dominant-load HV connections at 100 MW and above.
  • Provide technical sign-off across all major study deliverables and design work.
  • Drive system-level equipment specification: HV/MV transformers, reactive compensation, BESS integration, power electronics topology, and UPS architecture — in accordance with the relevant IEC standards.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with external parties — TSOs, / DSOs, grid code authorities, EPCs, independent engineers, and supplying OEMs.
  • Identify and manage technical risk across the full project lifecycle, including interface risks between electrical, civil, cooling, and IT infrastructure.
  • Mentor and develop the specialist engineering team, building capability across all five study domains over time.
Your background
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems; a thesis in grid dynamics, power electronics, or HV system design is a strong differentiator.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant industrial experience spanning at least three of the five specialist domains, with genuine familiarity across all five.
  • Proven experience with HV grid connections in an IEC regulatory context, including direct TSO engagement on connection studies, grid code compliance at transmission level, and familiarity with EU network codes (RfG, DCC, HVDC) where applicable.
  • Familiarity with the IEC standards landscape relevant to large power systems: IEC 60909 (short circuit), IEC 60071 (insulation coordination), IEC 61936 (HV installations), IEC 61850 (substation communication), and IEC 62271 (switchgear).
  • Hands-on experience with at least two major simulation platforms across the RMS and EMT domains (e.g. PowerFactory, PSS/E, PS-CAD,), and the ability to critically review outputs from tools you do not operate yourself.
  • Experience with power generation systems and distributed control architectures — including DCS/SCADA integration, governor and excitation control, and plant-level energy management in accordance with IEC 61850 and IEC 61968/61970 — is a significant advantage.
  • Comfortable working at the boundary between power systems engineering and adjacent disciplines: power electronics, data centre infrastructure, civil interfaces, and commercial constraints.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in a second language relevant to the operating region is an advantage.
