RED Engineering Design is a growing international M&E consultancy based in Madrid, delivering low-energy design and high-quality controls engineering. The Principal BMS Engineer role focuses on translating client BMS philosophies into effective, scalable solutions across Europe.

You will join a small but capable controls team, working with leading vendors and on hyperscale data centre projects to drive robust, compliant building automation designs and commissioning activities.

Formación

• Registered with a recognised Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
• Significant experience of building automation, instrumentation and monitoring systems.
• Understanding of networks, network hardware, cabling and network security.
• Knowledge of MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Ability to travel internationally.
• Experience leading control system designs and reports.

Responsabilidades

• Running large projects with a client-facing role in development, design and coordination of engineering services for control systems and facilities.

We now seek a Principal BMS Engineer to be based out of our Madrid office.

You will be stepping into a critical growth role as the second dedicated Controls Engineer on this major account while benefiting from the shared expertise of our wider Controls team.

We are currently designing cutting-edge 170MW hyperscale data centres, balancing the creation of agnostic global templates with highly refined, localised designs across Europe and the Nordics.

From day one, you will get hands‑on with the latest and greatest hyperscale designs currently being localised for the European market.

Your primary technical focus will be translating and implementing the client’s stringent Building Management System (BMS) philosophies into reality.

You will work in lockstep with the client’s own technical leads to deliver high-quality, controls engineering solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineer to gain high-level exposure, learn from industry experts, and make a tangible impact on some of the largest data centre builds in Europe.

Role Responsibilities

• Responsible for the running of large projects. Undertakes a client facing role in the development and design and coordination of engineering project services for Control systems, equipment, facilities etc. (Several building types)
• Develops designs and specifications for new build mechanical and electrical installations in many building types, in particular within complex technology-based buildings where close control and extensive monitoring systems are required.
• Produce points lists for Control Systems
• Generate Serial and IP based Controls Network Layout drawings and Schematic Architectures
• Write Sequence of Operation documents from review of MEP designs and through discussion and agreement with design engineers.
• Produce specifications from fresh where needed, software specification writing tools.
• Leads review of Contractors engineering proposals for compliance with the design specifications and any relevant regulations.
• Carry out condition surveys and reviews of existing installations. Produce reports and improvement plans.
• Day to day decision making on project progress and direct liaison with and provides advice to client
• Represents Company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and Contractor teams.
• Ensures engineering calculations and drawings meet applicable industry standards and Spanish and European legal requirements
• Specify and attend Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests and Integrated Systems Tests.
• Specify and attend commissioning activities during construction and completion of projects
• Leads on the coordination of engineering services
• Takes a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions

Role Requirements

• Registered with a recognised Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
• Currently employed as a BMS/BEMS/Building Automation Consulting Engineer
• Registered with a recognised Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros
• Significant experience of building automation, instrumentation and monitoring systems.
• Understanding of networks, network hardware, cabling and network security
• Understanding and ability to lead control system designs and report outputs
• Ability to keep clear and accurate records and reports
• Experience of attending meetings to discussing relevant skillset
• Knowledge of MS office (word/excel/outlook)
• Ability to prioritise own workload
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work to deadlines
• Ability to work well either alone or as part of a team
• Act in an ethical manner and follows the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines
• 6+ Years’ experience at Senior Engineer level or above
• Adaptable, proactive approach to engineering tasks
• Flexible and willing to travel as required to service international projects and clients
• Familiar with multiple vendors legacy and current products and keeps track of new and emerging products and technologies
• Supports the commercial management of projects and fees
• Ability to work autonomously, as part of a wider team, and leading a team
• Sound knowledge of applicable Spanish health and safety legislation
• Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software
• Good working knowledge of leading control systems products, networks and systems including those provided by schneider, siemens and trend.
• Support the delivery of projects in accordance with the expectations of the RED Project Delivery Process from a Project Management, Financial Management, QA/QC and Technical Review perspective.
• Good understanding of Spanish, European and applicable international standards, regulations and codes
• An appreciation of ATEX regulations.
• Background in consulting or construction preferred.
• Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.
• Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and
• Ethics in Practice Guidelines of the Group
