Runnymede College, Madrid, is seeking an outstanding Prep School English and French specialist to join from January or April 2027. You will teach as part of a dynamic team, employing engaging methods and thoughtful differentiation to support all pupils.

Required: British honours degree, PGCE or equivalent QTS, native English speaker, strong French, and solid ICT skills in the classroom. Excellent collaboration, planning and organisational abilities are essential.

About Runnymede College

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

Founded as a private school in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990, the whole School has been located in La Moraleja, in the north of Madrid. The School is divided into Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).

Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. In June 2026, 85% of our students achieved A*-B at A level, making Runnymede one of the highest-achieving schools in Spain. In addition, 72% of our pupils gained 7-9 (A/A*) grades at IGCSE. Once again, this figure is far above the 48% of 7-9 grades at GCSE obtained in the English independent (private) school sector.

In the graduating class of 2026, just over half of our pupils will be attending UK universities, 89% of them to Russell Group institutions. The most popular destination this year was St Andrews (12) followed by UCL, LSE, Oxford, Edinburgh and Warwick. Most of our remaining students have chosen the US. Five are starting at Ivy League universities, with others at Stanford, Boston College and Tufts. A similar number will be staying in Spain, at elite institutions including ICADE, IE and ICAI.

The school is looking to recruit an outstanding teacher to join our Prep School from January or April 2027.

The successful candidate will be a subject specialist in English and languages (French) and be committed to achieving the very best for pupils at all levels. They will be able to engage and motivate pupils using effective methods of teaching and differentiation.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will have:

• a good honours degree from a British University
• a PGCE or other equivalent qualified teacher status
• a subject specialism in English
• excellent teamwork skills and be willing to collaborate on planning and resourcing
• the ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
• high expectations of pupils’ effort and behaviour, and facilitate this with proven classroom management skills
• be organised and able to prioritise to meet deadlines
• be motivated and use initiative to contribute to success of the department
• be a native level English speaker
• very good level of French to teach Prep School pupils
• have a good working knowledge of ICT systems and the application of ICT in the classroom

Other Preferable but not Essential Criteria

• Previous experience of an international school

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and first round interviews will take place via Zoom on a rolling basis. The final round interview will be held face-to-face at Runnymede College in Madrid. The School reserves the right to make an appointment before the closing date if a suitable candidate is found.
