Job summary

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) seeks a predoctoral researcher to develop a project exploring electron transport and quantum phenomena in photosynthetic chains. The contract is within the Generación de Conocimiento project, funded by MICIU/AEI.

Initial start is January 2027, with a four-year predoc contract and IBEC support for international mobility and visas. Responsibilities include electrochemistry and tunneling techniques, plus computational interpretation of results.

Qualifications

• Degree and Master in chemistry or related field.
• Multidisciplinary knowledge on nanoscale techniques, esp. electrochemistry or tunneling microscopy.
• Candidates must enter a doctoral programme by December 2026 (EU equivalence acceptable).
• Strong commitment to research with an excellent academic record and no prior doctoral degree.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrochemistry experiments on redox proteins and photosynthetic complexes (photochronoamperometry, voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy).
• Conduct electrochemical tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy studies on relevant biomolecules.
• Carry out structure-based computer calculations to interpret experimental results.
