Gevernova in Zamudio, Spain, seeks a Power Systems Engineer to operate real-time simulators, perform HIL and FAT tests, and reproduce complex electrical conditions to evaluate protection relays and controllers in real-world scenarios.

You will collaborate with international teams, analyze relay settings, develop test plans, and document results while contributing to a range of projects across transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems.

Formación

  • B.S (Masters or higher is preferred) in Electrical, Computer or Power Systems Engineering with strong understanding of power system applications.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in protection, control, and automation applications.
  • Excellent understanding of power systems phenomena in transmission and distribution.
  • Understanding of power system protection relays, automation, control and communication protocols.
  • Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities and write SOW proposals.
  • Strong learning skills and collaborative, customer-focused approach.

Responsabilidades

  • Execute Engineering and Consulting Services Projects including schedule, customer communication, scope of work, budget, and quality.
  • Perform Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) tests using a real-time digital simulator including Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot real-time digital simulation scenarios.
  • Conduct studies across transmission, distribution, and industrial segments (short circuit, load flow, arc-flash, protection coordination).
  • Create relay setting files including protection, control logic, and communications settings for GE and third-party relays.
  • Develop test setups, test plans, and test cases with wiring diagrams and relay/controller configurations.
  • Prepare test reports and project deliverables; contribute to technical papers for conferences.
  • Participate in preparation of technical papers to be presented at conferences and other venues.

Job Description Summary

In this role, you will operate advanced real-time simulators and perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), reproducing complex electrical system conditions and testing how protection relays and controllers respond in real-world scenarios.

You will work closely with international engineering teams, troubleshoot complex system behavior, and contribute to a wide variety of projects giving you exposure to a different technologies, customers, and challenging power system applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execution of Engineering and Consulting Services Projects inside the Engineering & Consulting CoE. This includes schedule, customer communication, scope of work, budget, and quality.
  • Perform Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) tests using a real-time digital simulator, including Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Analyze and troubleshoot real time digital simulation scenarios
  • Execute engineering studies and analysis across the transmission, distribution, and industrial segments, such as: short circuit, load flow, arc-flash studies, protective device coordination studies.
  • Create complex relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Complex control Logic and Communications settings for GE and third-party protective relays.
  • Develop test setups, test plans, and test case (including wiring diagrams and configurations of relays and controllers)
  • Prepare test reports, project reports, and project deliverables
  • Participate in preparation of technical papers to be presented at conferences and other venues.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S (Masters or higher is preferred) in Electrical, Computer or Power Systems Engineering with very good understanding of power system applications and analysis.
  • Minimum (2) years of experience in protection, control, and automation applications.
  • Excellent understanding of power systems phenomena in transmission & distribution systems.
  • Understanding of power system protection relays, automation, control and communication protocols.
  • Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers.
  • Customer focused; open to accept new challenges and share ideas
  • Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities and write SOW proposals.
  • Strong learning skills, demonstrate collaborative style and Customer focused.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with RTDS or Opal Simulation Platforms.
  • Experienced in study software and power system tools such as PSCAD, PSSE, Power Factory, ASPEN, CAPE for automating the power system study process.
  • Understand of communication system protocols and architectures in electric power industry (IEC61850, DNP, Modbus, etc.).
  • Flexibility to work in a multi-customer environment and to adapt to requests/comments made in the course of execution.
  • Experience with transmission, distribution, and smart grid standards.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing and presentations.
  • Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing including Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar.
