Roche is seeking a DevOps Infrastructure Engineer (SE8) in Madrid to define the technical direction for multiple platforms and manage their lifecycle. You will guide CI/CD pipelines, drive self-healing strategies, and lead cross-functional teams across the organization to deliver scalable, secure IT solutions.

Position

As a DevOps Infrastructure Engineer at the SE8 level, you will establish the technical direction for multiple platforms and oversee their entire lifecycle, ensuring seamless alignment with organizational goals. Applying exceptional problem‑solving skills, you will resolve intricate challenges across multiple domains, lead cross‑functional teams, and oversee critical system implementations. Exhibiting profound expertise and thought leadership, you will influence technology direction, shape the global DevOps culture, and engage in high‑level strategic decision‑making to drive enterprise‑wide innovation.

Job Responsibilities

• Establishes the technical direction for the whole lifecycle of multiple heterogeneous and interrelated platforms and services—from inception through deployment, operation, and retirement.
• Applies software engineering principles to build large‑scale IT infrastructure, abstracting away complexity to provide self‑service tools for developers.
• Provides technical guidance for designing complex CI/CD pipelines, designs self‑healing strategies, and leads Disaster Recovery design and execution plans.
• Leverages exceptional problem‑solving skills to tackle intricate challenges across multiple domains, ensuring cohesive strategies that drive organization‑wide performance.
• Leads the maintenance of live services by designing metrics and identifying critical metrics for SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs.
• Accountable for availability, capacity planning, tuning, and leading large initiatives aimed at optimizing interrelated platforms for scalability.
• Demonstrates superior customer and delivery focus by proactively leading partnerships and influencing at senior levels with developers, managers, Managed Services suppliers, and vendors.
• Acts as a reference model analyst and integrates insights across customers and partners to inform customer‑centric IT decisions.
• Responsible for implementing and updating cost, compliance, and security best practices while ensuring solutions comply with Quality/Regulatory standards.
• Leads complex audit exercises and remediation plans, manages ITSM processes, and continuously scales systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation.
• Exhibits superior ability to collaborate globally with diverse, virtual teams, fostering success and alignment across multiple domains.
• Leads geo‑distributed teams through influence and mentorship, providing visionary guidance and driving excellence.
• Technically leads the definition of computing infrastructure entirely under software control.
• Designs and leads the implementation of Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Flexes and thrives in ambiguous environments undergoing transformational change and applies innovation to foster business strategy.

Qualifications

• Education / Experience: Proven experience leading geo‑distributed teams through influence and mentorship, providing visionary guidance across multiple domains.
• Demonstrated experience applying design thinking, lean, prioritization, and agile methodologies to evolve services.
• Ability to flex and thrive in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformational change.
• Technical Skills: Proven hands‑on technical skills in automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), logging, monitoring, observability, infrastructure configuration, and scripting languages.
• Proven wide experience applying Software Engineering principles and automated testing to lead the implementation of Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and complex CI/CD pipelines.
• Deep and wide experience working with infrastructure system internals, including availability, capacity, configuration, scalability, performance, and integrations.
• Proven wide experience defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs).
• Expertise in specific technology areas: Platform, Compute and Storage OR Network Management OR ERP Technology Management OR High Performance Computing OR Datacenter Management OR Database Management.
• Additional Qualifications: Proven broad experience boosting DevOps principles, processes, and tools across the organization.
• Strong capability to lead complex audit exercises and oversee Disaster Recovery execution plans.
