Roche is seeking an IT Software Engineer - RDT Engineering Excellence & Experience to lead strategic technical initiatives and mentor teams. The role requires deep expertise across multiple technology areas, setting high standards for code quality and security, and removing obstacles for delivery teams.

You will provide global-level support for digital product development, oversee Atlassian platform administration, and drive automation using Python and AI-enabled tools to improve productivity

As a IT Software Engineer - RDT Engineering Excellence & Experience, you will act as a strategic leader and innovator. You will define tasks for others, drive large-scale initiatives, and mentor colleagues to foster growth. This role involves providing global-level support for technical initiatives, sharing knowledge internationally, and shaping the organization's technical direction. You will possess deep expertise across multiple technology areas, set high standards for code quality and security, and remove obstacles for teams, continuously improving developer productivity and the overall software development lifecycle.

Description of the area

Job Responsibilities

• Scope / (Content Leadership): Provides strategic technical guidance and sets the direction for digital product development in alignment with business goals and priorities
• Core Engineering Domains: Provide deep hands-on expertise across at least one (or more) of the essential technical domains: Javascript developer Fullstack, DevOps, IaC or Application and Application Infrastructure support
• Atlassian Platform Administration: Act as a full Administrator for the Atlassian Suite in the Cloud (Jira, Confluence, etc.), overseeing platform stability, configurations, custom workflows, and integrations.
• L2/L3 Technical Escalation: Handle escalated tickets/issues that previous support tiers cannot resolve, driving complex troubleshooting to resolution
• AI & Automation Integration: Leverage Python and AI/GenAI-capable tools (MCP/automation scripts) to streamline workflows, optimize ticket resolution, and automate repetitive platform operations and user experience for the tools in scope (jira, codebeamer, confluence, OpenPDM, AllureTestOps)
• Accountability/Problem Solving: Defines tasks for others and drives successful Medium to Large (M/L) initiatives at the Product or Product Line level. Challenges others in a growth-enabling way, leverages team strengths effectively, and acts as a coach and/or lead for others
• Stakeholder Management: Possesses a strong grasp of stakeholder ecosystems and their needs, excelling in negotiations and partnerships for mutual benefits. Provides direction for mid- to long-term goals and objectives
• Impact/Strategy: Provides global-level support for innovative and technological initiatives. Gives speeches and shares knowledge in global/international events, drives tech universities, Centers of Excellence (CoEs), and knowledge-sharing initiatives, and is actively engaged in Chapter/Site related activities
• Complexity/ (Product Size): Operates at the Product Line / Chapter / Domain / Site level
• Business/Technical ability: Actively contributes to the advancement of technical knowledge within the field through publications, presentations, and mentorship (for example, playing a role of capability owner/hero). Inspires innovation, drives innovative solutions in line with technology trends, and engages in building new approaches to existing problems

Qualifications

• Proven track record in a Senior/Lead Engineer or DevOps/Platform Specialist role
• Strong experience in handling escalated support (L2/L3) for enterprise digital tools/platforms
• Experience working with both internal teams and external vendors/contractors
• Proven experience driving cross-functional collaboration to solve organization-wide technical problems and aligning disparate engineering efforts towards common goals
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate future technical challenges and opportunities, proactively developing strategies and solutions to keep the organization at the forefront.

Technical Skills

• Essential Technical Core: Strong proficiency in at least one of the following: Java Fullstack development, DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC), or SaaS platform administration
• Atlassian Administration: Hands-on Cloud and on-prem Administrator experience across the Atlassian ecosystem (Jira Cloud, Confluence, plugins, and API integrations)
• AI & Automation: Proficient in Python for automation, scripting, and integrating AI-driven / AI-capable capabilities into workflows and support processes
• Designed and deployed internal Streamlit (Python) web apps consuming Jira API endpoints to optimize team workflows, sprint tracking, ideas, dashboards etc…
• Deployment pipelines using ArgoCD and Helm to provision, sync, and scale enterprise Kubernetes pod instances with automated rollbacks
• Pytest and InSpec into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing, driving automated unit/integration testing alongside infrastructure-as-code compliance checks.
• Deep expertise in multiple technology areas and the ability to select and apply appropriate technologies to solve complex problems
• Strong understanding of software operations, including performance tuning and scalability
• Excellent knowledge of available software development tooling in the market, suggesting adoption to the current Roche toolset, and continuously improving developer productivity and experience Roche-wide
• Expertise in regulated and compliance market best practices, ensuring that software solutions comply with security standards in coordination with appropriate Roche experts
• Ability to create and communicate Roche-wide best practices for the entire software delivery process, from code to production

Additional Qualifications

• Champions and enforces high standards for code quality, testing, security, and operational excellence within their team and influences these standards more broadly
• Capable of continuously improving current software validation, regulatory processes, and software quality management practices
• Strong ability to remove obstacles for technical teams, empowering them to deliver exceptional products
• GxP & Validation: Exposure to or understanding of GxP validation, regulatory compliance, and software quality management in a regulated environment - will be an advantage
• English advanced level is a must. Any other language will be welcomed.
