Urbiotica busca un Ingeniero de Software de Nivel Medio enfocado a streaming de datos para unirse al equipo de software en Barcelona. Trabajarás en pipelines de datos en tiempo real y en la infraestructura de datos que alimenta nuestra plataforma de inteligencia urbana.

Colaborarás con ingenieros de datos y hardware IoT, y participarás en decisiones para escalar el sistema. Contrato indefinido con hasta 50% de teletrabajo desde Barcelona.

Formación

• Sólida comprensión de conceptos de streaming de datos y volúmenes grandes de datos.
• Experiencia práctica con Python para procesamiento de datos, integración y automatización.
• Experiencia con Apache Flink para procesamiento de streams.
• Experiencia con Apache Iceberg como formato de tablas para grandes conjuntos de datos.
• Experiencia con Trino para consultas SQL distribuidas.
• Conocimiento de Apache Polaris para gobernanza de catálogos.
• Experiencia con RabbitMQ para mensajería y sistemas impulsados por eventos.
• Experiencia con Redis para caché y acceso a datos de baja latencia.
• Al menos 3 años de experiencia en ingeniería de software, preferentemente en entornos de streaming.

Responsabilidades

• Diseñar, construir y mantener pipelines de streaming en tiempo real para millones de dispositivos IoT.
• Desarrollar y optimizar trabajos de procesamiento con Apache Flink.
• Trabajar con Apache Iceberg para gestionar lagos de datos a gran escala.
• Escribir código Python eficiente para procesamiento e integración de datos.
• Usar Trino para consultas analíticas distribuidas.
• Gestionar gobernanza de datos y catálogos con Apache Polaris.
• Diseñar y mantener arquitecturas de mensajería con RabbitMQ.
• Trabajar con Redis para caché y procesamiento en tiempo real.
• Colaborar con ingenieros de datos, backend e IoT para calidad de datos.
• Contribuir a decisiones arquitectónicas y mejoras continuas de la plataforma.

About the Software department

The Software department manages data sent from a wide range of hardware sensors and cameras, turning it into valuable insights for both our customers and our internal support and hardware teams. We build software across every stage of the IoT data flow — from data streaming to batch processing, machine learning, AI, and data visualization tools (web and mobile apps).

Tech stack

• Streaming: we use Apache Flink for real-time data streaming and processing.
• Storage: Apache Iceberg, Redis, and PostgreSQL serve as our storage layer for further analysis.
• Backend: Python and Java power our core software solutions, including sensor data streaming and API integrations with third-party systems.
• Data Science: our team processes massive volumes of text-based data using Apache Spark, Pandas, and Scikit-learn, applying machine learning to improve detection from our hardware sensors.
• Computer Vision: we use models such as YOLO for real-time object detection from our camera-based ("software") sensors.
• Frontend: React and TypeScript for web interfaces. Flutter for mobile development (iOS and Android).
• Deployment: Kubernetes clusters, on AWS and on our own infrastructure, following a microservices approach for flexibility and scalability.
• AI-first tooling: we're evolving into an AI‑first company, using Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to build software and create internal tools.

About the role

Urbiotica is looking for a Mid-level Data Streaming Software Engineer to join our engineering team and help us build and scale the systems that process large volumes of real‑time data from our IoT sensor network deployed across smart cities. You'll work on the streaming pipelines and data infrastructure that power our urban intelligence platform, turning massive streams of sensor data into actionable insights.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain real-time data streaming pipelines capable of handling large volumes of data from thousands of IoT devices.
• Develop and optimize stream processing jobs using Apache Flink .
• Work with Apache Iceberg to manage large-scale, reliable, and queryable data lakes.
• Write efficient, maintainable code in Python for data processing, integration, and automation tasks.
• Use Trino to enable fast, federated analytical queries across our data platform.
• Manage data governance and table catalogs with Apache Polaris .
• Design and maintain messaging and event‑driven architectures using RabbitMQ .
• Work with Redis for caching, fast data access, and supporting real‑time processing use cases.
• Collaborate closely with data engineers, backend developers, and IoT hardware teams to ensure end‑to‑end data quality and reliability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and continuous improvement of our streaming platform.

What We're Looking For

• Solid understanding of data streaming concepts and experience working with large‑scale data volumes .
• Good understanding of IoT technologies and the challenges of processing data from distributed sensor networks.
• Hands‑on experience with Apache Flink for stream processing.
• Experience with Apache Iceberg as a table format for large analytical datasets.
• Strong proficiency in Python .
• Experience with Trino for distributed SQL querying.
• Familiarity with Apache Polaris (or similar catalog/governance tools).
• Experience with RabbitMQ for messaging and event‑driven systems.
• Experience with Redis for caching and low‑latency data access.
• 3+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in data‑intensive or streaming environments.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of Apache Spark .
• Experience with cloud platforms as AWS
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience working in smart city, IoT, or sensor‑data‑driven environments.
