Pangea Propulsion in Barcelona is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our space propulsion team. You will drive the mechanical design from concept through detailed documentation and production handover, focusing on performance, cost, and reliability.

You'll apply CAD (Siemens NX), GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM principles to complex assemblies, coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing, and collaborate with engineers across disciplines to optimize designs.

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Barcelona.

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Barcelona. The successful candidate will leverage the mechanical design and development of propulsion components from concept through to detailed documentation and production handover. This role is crucial in enhancing efficiency, reliability and the cost of our systems.

This role requires strong proficiency in mechanical design principles, CAD tools, and technical documentation, along with the ability to interface with suppliers and support manufacturing activities. A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize propulsion system components with a focus on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Lead the development of mechanical designs, including detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and GD&T application.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation such as specifications, assembly procedures, and design justifications.
• Support propulsion system integration and layout planning within the overall vehicle architecture.
• Collaborate with propulsion engineers and analysts to iterate and improve designs based on test and simulation feedback.
• Coordinate with suppliers and machine shops to ensure feasibility and quality in manufacturing.

What you need to be successful

• Educational Background: BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience: 5+ years in mechanical design, preferably in the space sector.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Strong skills in CAD design (preferably Siemens NX) and experience working with complex assemblies.
• Familiarity with PLM tools (preferably Teamcenter)
• Proficiency in ISO GPS, tolerance analysis and creation of accurate technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong understanding of DfM principles, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and process limitations.
• Experience preparing technical documentation, including specifications and design files.
• Soft Skills:
• Passion, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
• Creativity and strong visual imagination to translate ideas into feasible mechanical solutions.
• Autonomy and result-oriented mindset, with the ability to take ownership of tasks.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork-oriented mindset.
• Fluent in English, with the ability to effectively collaborate across disciplines; proficiency in Spanish and French is a plus.

Other useful skills

• Advanced Education: MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Industry Experience: Prior experience in the design of propulsion or space systems are highly desirable.
• Specialized Expertise:
• Expertise in rotating assemblies is highly valuable.
• Competence in FEM for structural analysis and a solid understanding of static and dynamic analysis.
• Experience designing metallic additive manufactured parts.
• Understanding of aerospace standards for pressurized components.
