Descripción del empleo

Are you a hardcore engineer? One of those few people that makes the difference. We’ve been getting things done that no other team has ever achieved. VLM is a technology capable of processing materials 1,000x more viscous than any other 3D printing resin, and we’ve then turned that viscosity into also unprecedented material properties, reaching automotive & aerospace properties (or literally printing rocket propellants).

And how we did it? By being brave. Not taking no for an answer. With a lot of creativity. And working harder than the rest. All those are human factors, not technology factors. We did it because of our team DNA, and we’re now looking for similar minded people to conquer new limits.

Your Mission

You will be a pivotal force in our Engineering Team, leading software for a small, highly technical team while remaining deeply hands-on. This is a player-coach role: approximately 70% of your time will be spent as a senior individual contributor designing, building and owning critical software, and approximately 30% leading internal engineers and coordinating external software development partners. You will own the software architecture that orchestrates the full 3D printing process, develop algorithms, routines and control systems, and ensure reliable integration across machine software, embedded systems, electronics, mechatronics and process engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of the machine-level software while remaining a hands-on senior individual contributor.
  • Define and own the overall software architecture, including system decomposition, interfaces, and integration across machine-level, embedded, cloud and other software components.
  • Design and implement core control algorithms and process routines that coordinate motion, materials, machine sequencing and the overall printing workflow.
  • Own critical software components directly, setting technical direction, making key architectural decisions and implementing high-impact parts of the codebase.
  • Collaborate closely with embedded, electronics, mechatronics and process engineers to ensure tight hardware-software integration and robust system behavior.
  • Lead system-level software testing and validation activities, from defining test plans and experiments to analyzing data, debugging issues and improving process robustness.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of software engineers: define priorities, break down work, review technical decisions and code, remove blockers, and support their professional development.
  • Own the relationship and execution with external software developers and partners, including scope definition, technical alignment, deliverable review, integration and quality control.
About You
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in software development, ideally including machine software, industrial equipment, robotics, automation or advanced manufacturing systems.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands‑on proficiency in C++ and/or other languages used in machine, embedded or systems software.
  • Experience designing and owning software architectures for complex physical systems, including state machines, interfaces, communications and control logic.
  • Experience integrating machine-level software with embedded systems, sensors, actuators and hardware subsystems would be a strong plus.
  • Proven track record delivering robust, production‑grade software and personally owning technically critical parts of a codebase.
  • Experience leading or mentoring software engineers while remaining hands‑on, ideally in a small, fast‑moving engineering team.
  • Experience coordinating external software developers, contractors or development partners and holding them accountable for technical quality and delivery.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across software, embedded, electronics, mechatronics and other engineering disciplines. Fluent professional English, both written and verbal.
