Europcar Mobility Group seeks a senior in-house lawyer to lead Iberian legal matters, align with Group policy, and oversee compliance in Spain and Portugal. You will advise senior management, manage contracts, and navigate regulatory frameworks across mobility and transport services.
The role requires deep GDPR knowledge, strong corporate governance, and experience with public procurement. Fluency in Spanish and English is essential; Portuguese is highly valued.

Law degree required. Master's degree in Business Law, EU Law, or an MBA — strongly preferred. Bar admission (Colegio de Abogados) — required. Additional qualifications in Data Protection (CIPP/E, CIPM or equivalent) or Compliance (ICA, CAMS or equivalent) — valued.
Minimum 10-15 years of legal experience, combining private practice (leading law firm) and/or in-house roles in a complex, multi-jurisdictional business environment. Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following:
Track record of managing external counsel, controlling legal spend, and reporting to senior management on legal risk. Prior experience as a Head of Legal or equivalent senior in-house role in an international company — highly valued. Experience in the vehicle rental, mobility, travel, hospitality, or regulated consumer services sectors — a strong plus. Familiarity with public tender processes and airport or railway concession frameworks in Spain and/or Portugal — a strong plus.
Deep knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese commercial, corporate, and contract law. Strong command of GDPR / RGPD and the LOPDGDD, including current AEPD / CNPD enforcement practice. Solid understanding of consumer protection law in Spain and Portugal, including sector-specific regulations applicable to vehicle rental. Working knowledge of Spanish public procurement law (Ley 9/2017 LCSP) and concession frameworks applicable to transport infrastructure. Familiarity with criminal compliance frameworks (Art. 31bis Codigo Penal) and whistleblowing legislation (Ley 2/2023). Proficiency with legal databases (Westlaw, Aranzadi, etc.) and standard legal management tools.
Spanish — native or full professional proficiency (C2). English — full professional proficiency (C1 minimum); primary language for Group-level communication and documentation. Portuguese — professional working proficiency strongly valued, given direct responsibility for Portuguese operations.
Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen; provides pragmatic, business-oriented advice beyond purely technical legal analysis. High degree of autonomy and personal accountability; able to lead the legal function with limited resources and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; credible with senior management, Group functions, and external parties. Strong leadership and people management skills; committed to developing the team and building legal awareness across the organisation. Resilient, solutions-focused, and comfortable operating in an environment of organisational change and complexity. Highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality. Ability to identify, quantify, and communicate legal and regulatory risk clearly to non-legal audiences, including C‑level stakeholders and Group governance bodies.

At the end of the 19th century, the car was a luxury reserved for the elite, but interested everyone, attracting crowds: in 1898, the first car show was held in Paris. Car rental will see the light a few years later, across the Atlantic, but its development will be stopped by the first and then by the Second World Wars. In the aftermath of the war, a Parisian entrepreneur revived the idea: "If you can’t afford to buy a car, why not rent one when you need it?". His name was Raoul-Louis Mattei and in 1949, he created "L'Abonnement Automobile": a company that would later become the Compagnie Internationale Europcars, then Europcar. Its headquarters, located 11 rue du Champ de Mars also included a rental agency. The company's success was rapid, as car rental responded to a real need. In 1951, l’Abonnement Automobile was the first company for car rental without a driver and its fleet counted 750 4 CV. Now, the Europcar Mobility Group has over 200,000 vehicles on average in its fleet and serves 5 million customers in more than 140 countries.
