Temple Compute in Barcelona is building the infrastructure layer that makes scientific computing accessible to every scientist. We’re hiring a founding engineer to own core features from first commit to production, with hybrid work in Barcelona and direct impact on research workflows.

You’ll design a backend workflow engine, craft a visual editor for researchers, and develop a plugin framework so third-party tools can join Horus.

Formación

• Production-grade backend experience in Python with FastAPI or Flask and REST API design.
• Strong frontend experience with React and TypeScript; familiarity with modern tooling (Vite).
• Relational databases at scale (PostgreSQL, SQLModel/SQLAlchemy) and query optimization.
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker).
• Knowledge of authentication and security fundamentals (OAuth2, SSO, ABAC) and distributed systems.

Responsabilidades

• Build the workflow engine that handles long-running, stateful tasks across cloud/HPC.
• Develop the visual workflow editor so researchers can monitor and construct pipelines without CLIs.
• Design the plugin architecture and SDK to allow third-party tools to join the platform.
• Own features end-to-end: design, build, deploy, and monitor with automated processes.

We're building the infrastructure layer that makes scientific computing accessible to every scientist.

Temple Compute is a deep-tech company founded by Barcelona Supercomputing Center ex-researchers. Our platform (Horus) lets biotech teams, materials scientists, and AI researchers run complex simulation workflows without touching a cluster config file. Auto-provisioned HPC or cloud, wherever compute is available.

Tech & Challenges

You'll own features from first commit to production. We build fast, identify friction, and fix it systematically.

1. Build the workflow engine
   Design and ship the backend that handles distributed workflow execution, job scheduling, state management, and failure recovery across cloud and HPC environments. This is not CRUD. Workflows are long-running, stateful, and run on infrastructure you don't fully control.


2. Build the interface scientists actually use
   Develop the visual workflow editor that replaces the command line for researchers. Real-time job monitoring, drag-and-drop pipeline construction, result visualization. The UX has to be clean enough that a biologist with no DevOps background can use it on day one.


3. Plugin architecture and marketplace
   Design the SDK and plugin framework that lets third-party developers distribute their simulation tools as native Horus components. Think extension system, not just API.


4. Ship and own
   You design the feature, build it, deploy it, and monitor it. When deployment becomes painful, you automate it. When the architecture shows friction, you fix it before it becomes technical debt.

What you need

• Production-grade backend experience in Python, FastAPI or Flask, REST API design.


• Strong frontend. React, TypeScript, modern tooling (Vite, React, TypeScript)


• Relational databases at scale. SQLModel / SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, schema design, query optimization


• Docker and containerized environments


• Authentication and security fundamentals. OAuth2, SSO, attribute based access control (ABAC)

Nice to have

• Scientific software or research tooling background


• Workflow engines or pipeline orchestration (Nextflow, Airflow, Prefect)


• Plugin/SDK architecture experience


• Real-time systems or job monitoring interfaces
