Sociedad Española de Astronomía invites applications for a Research Assistant position in Extragalactic Radio Astronomy. The successful candidate will join the Cosmic Magnetic Fields project at UCM, studying radio galaxies, supermassive black holes, and the cosmic web using LOFAR and ASKAP data.

Applicants should hold a degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Data Science, or related fields and be prepared to pursue PhD fellowships under Dr. O’Sullivan.

Formación

• Requires strong academic record and programming experience (Python preferred).
• Interest in observational astronomy, data analysis, machine learning, or astrophysical modelling.

Responsabilidades

• Join the Cosmic Magnetic Fields research programme at UCM.
• Investigate radio galaxies, supermassive black holes and their environments, cosmic magnetic fields, and the large-scale cosmic web using LOFAR and ASKAP data.
• Prepare for and exploit early SKA science observations under supervision of Dr. O’Sullivan.
• Contribute to analysis and classification of radio sources and host galaxies using machine learning.
