Sonae Sierra is seeking an ESG Specialist to join our Madrid team, responsible for defining and implementing the company’s ESG strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving sustainable value across development, management and investment activities.

You will work with Compliance, Risk, Finance and Communications to prepare ESG reports (GRI/SASB/CSRD), monitor EU Taxonomy and SFDR rules, and translate regulations into practical processes.

Formación

  • 4-5 years of experience in ESG, Sustainability, Compliance, or related roles.
  • Degree in Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, Economics, Law, or related field (Master's degree is a plus).
  • Solid knowledge of ESG frameworks and standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD/ESRS).
  • Understanding of European sustainability regulation (EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD).
  • Ability to interpret regulatory texts and translate them into actionable processes.

  • Monitor ESG KPIs and propose continuous improvement plans and investment needs.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, Finance and Communications teams.

We are looking for an ESG Specialist to join our team in Madrid, responsible for supporting the definition, implementation, and monitoring of the company's ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving sustainable value creation for the business.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the organization's ESG strategy, aligned with business objectives, risk management and asset‑level realities
  • Support the integration of ESG criteria into investment decisions, asset management, development projects and property operations
  • Proactively suggest new ESG initiatives and partnerships (e.g., community programmes in shopping centres, student well‑being initiatives in PBSA, health & wellness in offices)
  • Identify ESG risks and opportunities in the portfolio and coordinate the collection and analysis of ESG data (environmental, social, and governance) across different departments
  • Prepare sustainability reports in compliance with international standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD/ESRS)
  • Ensure compliance with European and Spanish regulations on sustainability (EU Taxonomy, CSRD, SFDR, etc.)
  • Monitor ESG KPIs and propose continuous improvement plans - identify trends and performance gaps and propose continuous improvement plans and investment needs
  • Support ESG due diligence processes and engagement with investors, clients, and stakeholders
  • Track regulatory and market trends related to sustainability
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Communications teams
  • Prepare materials for external audits and ESG ratings
  • Support internal training and awareness on ESG topics for asset management, operations and corporate teams
Requirements
  • 4-5 years of experience in ESG, Sustainability, Compliance, or related roles
  • Degree in Business Administration, Environmental Sciences, Economics, Law, or related field (Master's degree is a plus)
  • Solid knowledge of ESG frameworks and standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD/ESRS)
  • Understanding of European sustainability regulation (EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD)
  • Ability to interpret regulatory texts and technical standards (e.g., building codes, energy performance requirements) and translate them into actionable processes
  • Experience preparing sustainability reports
  • Fluent Spanish and English
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving skills and communication skills
  • Strategic mindset combined with hands‑on execution and willingness to engage at asset level
  • Autonomy, rigor, and ability to manage multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Excel/PowerPoint; familiarity with ESG reporting tools is a plus
Nice to Have
  • ESG/Sustainability certifications (e.g., GRI Certified, CFA ESG Investing)
  • Prior experience in consulting, auditing, or a company with a strong regulatory component
  • Knowledge of ESG ratings and investor due diligence processes
  • Prior experience in real estate investment, asset management, property management, development or in consulting/auditing for real estate clients
  • Experience with materiality assessments, stakeholder engagement models and double materiality under CSRD
  • Knowledge of climate risk assessment, decarbonisation pathways for buildings, net‑zero strategies or SBTi processes
