MAI Group is seeking an Environmental Consultant / EIA Expert to coordinate and prepare Environmental Impact Assessments for energy, industrial and infrastructure projects in Spain. The role requires coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with environmental and administrative regulations.

You will also collaborate with the International Environment team on assignments in different countries.

Formación

• Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Forest Engineering or related discipline.
• Five+ years of professional experience in environmental consultancy.
• Experience with Spain's Environmental Impact Assessment procedures.
• Strong knowledge of Spanish environmental and administrative regulations.
• Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems.
• English proficiency at B2 level or above.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.

Responsabilidades

• Advise clients on strategy for obtaining Environmental Impact Statements and optimise permitting timelines.
• Prepare Environmental Impact Assessments for industrial, energy and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare Strategic Environmental Assessments for plans and programmes.
• Define technical and environmental studies required by project type and location.
• Coordinate specialist studies (flora, fauna, noise, air quality, cultural heritage).
• Lead multidisciplinary teams in environmental documentation preparation.
• Identify and manage external consultants and subcontractors.
• Prepare Environmental Monitoring and Surveillance Plans.
• Manage EIA and permitting procedures.
• Act as liaison between clients, technical teams, and authorities.
• Support international projects involving EIA and lender requirements.

About the role

At MAI Group, we are looking for an experienced Environmental Consultant / EIA Expert to coordinate and prepare Environmental Impact Assessments for energy, industrial and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will have solid experience managing projects subject to Environmental Impact Assessment procedures in Spain, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with environmental and administrative regulations.

This position also offers the opportunity to collaborate with our International Environment team on environmental and social assignments in different countries.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on the most appropriate strategy for obtaining Environmental Impact Statements, improving process efficiency and optimising permitting timelines.
• Prepare Environmental Impact Assessments for industrial, energy and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare Strategic Environmental Assessments for plans and programmes.
• Define the technical and environmental studies required according to the type and location of each project.
• Coordinate specialist studies, including botanical and fauna surveys, noise assessments, air quality studies and cultural heritage assessments.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams involved in the preparation of environmental and technical documentation.
• Identify, select and manage external consultants and specialist subcontractors.
• Prepare Environmental Monitoring and Surveillance Plans.
• Manage and monitor Environmental Impact Assessment and permitting procedures.
• Act as the main liaison between clients, technical teams, external specialists and competent public authorities.
• Support international projects involving Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, lenders’ environmental and social advisory services, environmental and social due diligence and HSE-related assessments.
• Manage several projects simultaneously while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance and delivery deadlines.

Required qualifications and experience

• Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Forest Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least five years of professional experience in environmental consultancy or a comparable position.
• Proven experience in the preparation and management of projects subject to Environmental Impact Assessment procedures in Spain.
• Strong knowledge of Spanish environmental and administrative regulations.
• High level of proficiency in Geographic Information Systems.
• English proficiency at B2 level or above, both written and spoken.
• Experience in project coordination and project management.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organisational and planning skills.
• Analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
• Results-oriented approach and ability to work effectively across several concurrent projects.

• Availability to travel within Spain and internationally.

• Experience in green-fuel projects, particularly biomethane.
