Airbus Defence and Space SAU is seeking an Environmental and Crew Systems Control Engineer to lead development, integration, and certification of ECS control systems across military platforms. The role spans requirements analysis, architecture definition, and flight-test support.

You will work with cross-functional teams on pneumatics, air conditioning, ice protection, oxygen, and crew escape systems, ensuring safe integration and compliance with regulatory standards at all stages of the program.

Description of the Job:

As an Environmental and Crew Support Systems Control Engineer, you will be an integral part of our team responsible for crew support and air systems in Airbus Defence and Space. Your work will encompass a wide range of systems, including pneumatics, air conditioning, ice protection, oxygen, and crew escape systems for all military platforms. Our team is recognized as a reference both internally and externally in various international program consortiums (e.g., EF, A400M). Your role will cover the entire development life-cycle of control systems within our scope, from requirements analysis and control system architecture definition to development, integration, and certification/qualification. Given the variety of versions in different development and in-service stages, your job will be dynamic and diverse.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and testing control systems for environmental and crew support systems.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of systems.
  • Supporting aircraft deliveries and resolving in-service issues, providing technical expertise to ensure aircraft readiness.
  • Contributing to research and innovation initiatives to adapt air systems to new aircraft concepts.
  • Managing technical interfaces, stakeholders, and suppliers.

Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Define, develop, and integrate environmental control and crew systems architecture, including control and monitoring systems (hardware and software, interfaces, and wiring diagrams), ensuring safe integration and performance.
  • Manage the development of ECS solutions and maintain system configuration control throughout the product's life cycle, ensuring compliance with certification and qualification regulations.
  • Lead integration activities of electronic control units related to ECS and manage software configuration during the program's life.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to meet customer and airworthiness requirements, including technical coordination and official communication.
  • Validate, verify, and certify technical solutions from development to qualification phases, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with technological advancements and provide tools and methods for global integration of ECS components, ensuring system performance meets customer specifications.
  • Plan and oversee laboratory testing activities for ECS from development to in-service, and provide technical support for flight test programs and aircraft delivery in the Final Assembly Line (FAL).
  • Provide technical support for in-service events, including resolving technical issues and analyzing incidents/accidents, to maintain system airworthiness.

Required Skills:

  • Degree in Aeronautical, Industrial, Telecommunications or Computer Engineer.
  • Spanish and English: Negotiation level.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different tasks and different environments, demonstrating versatility in various situations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Experienced in control systems with strong skills in both hardware and software integration, and knowledge of aerospace communication protocols e.g., ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, AFDX.
  • Proven experience in integrating electronic control units and managing software configurations, ensuring seamless system performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues, analyze incidents, and create innovative control architectures. Ability to interpret and analyze data to ensure system performance meets customer specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Experience in defining, developing, and integrating complex systems, including both hardware and software components, to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., CAMEO, SCADE, MATLAB/Simulink) to support system design and validation.
  • Familiarity with aerospace safety and certification standards (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, CS25, CS23), ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to continuously develop skills and knowledge through training and professional development opportunities, staying updated with the latest industry advancements.
