HiTHIUM Energy Storage is expanding its Navarra manufacturing site and seeks an experienced EHS Manager to establish and lead the Environment, Health and Safety function. You will design and implement the site EHS management system, ensure compliance with Spanish and European regulations, and promote a strong safety culture across operations.

Responsibilities include leading risk assessments, implementing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, managing audits, training teams, and coordinating with authorities

Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 5 years' EHS experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience leading an EHS function or team.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish risk prevention and safety rules.
  • Experience implementing/auditing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English; Chinese is a plus.
  • Proven leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Navarra site.

As part of our continued expansion in Europe, we are developing a new manufacturing operation in Navarra. We are looking for a EHS Manager to establish and lead the Environment, Health and Safety function for our manufacturing site.

This role will be responsible for developing the site EHS management system, ensuring compliance with Spanish and European regulations, managing operational and environmental risks, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Compliance and Management Systems

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Spanish and European occupational health, industrial safety and environmental regulations.
  • Lead the implementation of the Spanish Occupational Risk Prevention framework and relevant site compliance requirements.
  • Establish, implement and maintain the site EHS management system.
  • Lead the implementation, certification and continuous improvement of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Develop local EHS policies, procedures, work instructions and reporting standards.
  • Maintain the site’s legal compliance register and monitor relevant regulatory developments.
  • Coordinate internal audits, external certification audits, customer assessments and corrective action follow-up.

Operational Safety and Risk Management

  • Lead site-wide hazard identification, occupational risk assessments and safe working procedures.
  • Oversee risk assessment methodologies such as JSA, HAZOP and other appropriate industrial risk-assessment tools.
  • Establish and manage permit-to-work procedures for high-risk activities, including hot work, work at height, confined spaces, lifting operations and electrical work.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are implemented for machinery, electrical installations, hazardous areas and chemical handling.
  • Lead contractor and subcontractor safety management, including qualification, onboarding, supervision and compliance follow-up.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure that identified risks and corrective actions are properly closed.

Environmental Management

  • Oversee environmental compliance related to air emissions, wastewater, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, noise, soil and groundwater.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring and reporting with authorized external providers.
  • Ensure compliant storage, documentation, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Lead environmental improvement, energy-efficiency and emission-reduction initiatives.

Occupational Health and Safety Culture

  • Develop occupational health programmes covering chemical exposure, noise, dust, ergonomics and psychosocial risks.
  • Coordinate health surveillance activities with occupational health providers.
  • Establish and manage the site EHS training plan.
  • Ensure employees and contractors receive appropriate safety induction, job-specific and emergency-response training.
  • Promote employee participation and build a proactive safety culture across the site.

Emergency and Incident Management

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for fire, chemical spills, explosions, electrical incidents and other industrial emergencies.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure emergency equipment and resources remain operational.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, near misses and EHS incidents.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Build, manage and develop the local EHS team.
  • Define team priorities, responsibilities and performance objectives.
  • Coordinate with site management, internal departments, external prevention services, occupational health providers, authorities and third-party auditors.
  • Prepare regular EHS reports covering compliance, incidents, risks, audits and improvement actions.
  • Communicate significant EHS risks and performance results to site management and headquarters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of EHS experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Previous experience leading an EHS function or managing an EHS team.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish occupational risk prevention and industrial safety requirements.
  • Practical experience implementing, maintaining or auditing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Experience managing operational safety, environmental compliance, occupational health and emergency response.
  • Strong knowledge of high-risk work controls, contractor safety and incident investigation.
  • Experience in battery manufacturing, automotive, chemical, semiconductor or another high-risk industrial sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience with ATEX, hazardous chemicals, machinery safety or industrial fire protection is an advantage.
  • Professional fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
  • Chinese language skills are an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work on-site and regularly access production and construction areas.
  • A recognized Spanish PRL qualification, ISO auditor certification or equivalent EHS qualification is highly desirable.
